A department store giant has pro-lifers singing its praises this Christmas. On Wednesday, corporate watchdog 2ndVote revealed that Macy’s no longer gives or matches donations to Planned Parenthood, calling the decision “another Miracle on 34th Street.”

The famous department store group has dropped the role of benefactor to Planned Parenthood, the researchers report — their decision prompted by pro-life customers who complained about the practice. And Macy’s responded. Still, 36 other major retailers and businesses continue donating to the cause, including Ben & Jerry’s, Nike, American Express, Starbucks and Verizon. The complete list is here

“This Christmas, pro-lifers should consider shopping at Macy’s. Because, as it turns out, the giant chain listens to its conservative consumers,” notes Katie Yoder, an analyst with Newsbusters.com who also monitors corporate advocacy efforts, including this development.

2ndVote’s press statement expressed appreciation for the timing of Macy’s announcement.

“In the spirit of thankfulness and celebration that comes this time of year, we have a special update that our research team recently made,” the 2ndVote release began. “Macy’s confirmed with 2ndVote last week that the company no longer gives and no longer matches donations to Planned Parenthood.”

The release continued: “We wanted to share this great news with you because the credit is due to our 2ndVote members who have engaged these companies for their position on the Life issue. It’s because of your decisions and conversations with these companies that the funnels of corporate dollars to liberal organizations are starting to close.”

The news comes a year after four other companies (AT&T, Coca-Cola, Ford, and Xerox) publicly distanced themselves from Planned Parenthood.

“Isn’t this a great (early) Christmas present?” 2ndVote concluded in the release.

Harvest Praise and Worship Center Pastor Mark Burns discussed Macy’s withdrawal from financially supporting Planned Parenthood with Lou Dobbs on Fox Business.

“This is the conservative voice of this country speaking up,” said Burns. “This is still a faith-based country, and Macy’s withdrawing support from Planned Parenthood proves that our voice matters.”
