A series of scandals concerning Democrats’ misuse of campaign funds, which could even cross the line into blatantly illegal expenditures, has highlighted a serious problem of politicians' personal indulgence at other people‘s expense.
The Democrat Party's prime fundraising platform, ActBlue, is just one instance of massive financial crisis. As recently as April 14, House GOP leaders were accusing ActBlue of purposely obstructing an investigation into how it deceived Congress about its 2024 election fraud safeguards. And about a year ago, multiple House of Representatives committees announced the discovery of "extensive fraud" on ActBlue. But multiple individual Democrats are also in hot water.
I have just heard from @AAGDhillon that the DOJ is looking into these donations made to Act Blue for candidates in Kansas in my name.

I have NEVER donated to any political candidates in my life and have NEVER been to Kansas.

Rep. Eric Swalwell's (D-Calif.) resignation amid a slew of sexual assault and immigration violation accusations has been major news the last few days. But now people are questioning how clean Swalwell's best pal Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) is. After all, Gallego served divorce papers on his pregnant wife without warning before marrying a much younger woman, and now rumors are circulating online that he harassed a former staffer so much she resigned. Whether the latter accusation is true I do not know, but on today's topic of campaign fund misspending, there is some juicy reporting from The Daily Mail on April 15.
From "Bombshell records reveal Eric Swalwell and Ruben Gallego splurged campaign cash in Puerto Rico during island wedding":
Swalwell's political operation made a pair of expenditures at the Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico, totaling $1,522.11 on June 7th, 2021.
An Instagram post by a wedding guest, reviewed by the Daily Mail, tagged that hotel as the location of Gallego's wedding on that same date.
The political operation of Gallego - the groom - spent $2,000 at the nearby Fairmont El San Juan that same day. Gallego, a congressman at the time, was elected to the Senate in November 2024… California Democratic Congresswoman Linda Sanchez, also in attendance at the event per Politico, spent campaign funds at the Hyatt Regency totaling $1,809.79. On May 18th of 2021, Sanchez spent an additional $540.93 for a 'lodging deposit' at the hotel.
Of course, federal law prohibits personal expenditures of campaign funds.
Then there's Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Flor.). Her situation is not quite the same, for rather than applying her campaign funds to shady purposes, she misappropriated federal funding to use as campaign cash.
In March, the House Ethics Committee found her guilty of campaign finance violations. Cherfilus-McCormick appropriated over $5 million in federal FEMA COVID-19 relief to her campaign. Not only was she using this taxpayer money for her personal campaign, she even used it for luxury purchases such as a 3.14-carat yellow diamond ring, according to the New York Post.
So Gallego, Swalwell, and Sanchez evidently think they should be allowed to use campaign funds on indulgent vacations, while Cherfilus-McCormick shamelessly spent federal funds on her political campaign and pricey jewelry. That's the Democrat Party, my fellow Americans — always living high off other people's money.
