Shocking Comparison: UK Prosecutions for Speech Offenses vs. Victim-Based Crimes

The UK has become infamous for crushing free speech. And the number of arrests last year for social media posts is even more astounding when compared to the microscopic number of victim-based crimes that actually resulted in a charge.

Victim-based crimes include robbery, sexual offenses, violence, theft, and arson. Less than 10% of such crimes last year resulted in a charge in the UK, indicating that police have essentially given up on prosecuting crimes such as sexual assault. Especially, of course, if the culprits happen to be Muslims. At the same time, arrests for free speech criticizing government actions and woke narratives have increased dramatically in recent years.

The UK Daily Mail reported “shocking numbers” this month after obtaining data from 39 out of the 45 police jurisdictions in the United Kingdom. In 2024 alone, there were 9,700 arrests for social media posts in those 39 jurisdictions, while there were 13,800 arrests for the same reason in the previous year.

While the number of arrests last year went down, they were still higher than before the COVID pandemic. Furthermore, it is not clear whether arrests have gone up this year again, as reportedly up to 30 people were being arrested a day in the UK thanks to aggressive free speech crackdowns. Among the jurisdictions that did not provide data was Police Scotland, one of the largest, so the true arrest number cannot be definitively stated.

Daniel Greenfield, however, wrote for Front Page Magazine that, based on Freedom House’s estimate, around a thousand British citizens are arrested every month for social media posts. Britain has reached the point where it rivals dictatorships like Cuba for the number of political prisoners it has.

Now contrast that with data on victim-based crimes. According to UK Home Office data reported by Greenfield, only six percent of such crimes last year resulted in a charge. In some cases, police have said they are simply not going to investigate crimes at all and have stopped counting them (hence the claim “crime is down”).

For example, if a bike was left at a train station for a certain amount of time before being stolen, police will not even investigate the theft. Meanwhile, snatch theft went up 153% in 2024. Any guesses why? Oxford Street even has lines painted on it to tell people where to walk if they don’t want a bike rider to be able to steal their phones as they pass. The UK authorities have surrendered to jihadis and criminals.

Under the Government’s sentencing plans up to 45,000 criminals that currently would be sent to jail will now walk free. Thousands more will get discounts, free to offend again after serving as little as a third of their sentence. Or, of course, they could just get let out accidentally altogether.

For example, this year UK authorities “mistakenly” released an Ethiopian “migrant” who had sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl and then put out a message asking if he would please turn himself in again.

This is at a time when up to a thousand Brits a month are being arrested for online posts. What a suicidal joke the British government and police have become.
