Lincoln’s Warning Still Holds True for Dems Today

The more the Democrat Party changes, the more it stays the same. Democrat elites of today might screech about transgenderism and abortion instead of slavery, but their persistence in pushing horrible policies on We the People that they never intend to hold themselves to is as true in 2025 as it was in 1858.

Abraham Lincoln, in the 1850s, was not yet calling for the imminent abolishment of slavery or full civil rights for black Americans, but he did recognize that slavery was unjust and incompatible with our founding principles. Furthermore, as he so accurately observed, none of the Americans who so enthusiastically defended slavery seem interested in becoming slaves themselves. Likewise, in our day, the leftist elites who tell us to give up private transportation, stop eating meat, and submit to aggressive censorship, never personally adopt their own touted policies.

The fact that a man should be able to benefit from the fruits of his labor without having it confiscated by another, Lincoln declared, is built into nature by God. It has been made so “plain by our good Father in Heaven, that all feel and understand it, even down to brutes and creeping insects. The ant, who has toiled and dragged a crumb to his nest, will furiously defend the fruit of his labor, against whatever robber assails him. So plain, that the most dumb and stupid slave that ever toiled for a master, does constantly know that he is wronged. So plain that no one, high or low, ever does mistake it, except in a plainly selfish way; for although volume upon volume is written to prove slavery a very good thing, we never hear of the man who wishes to take the good of it, by being a slave himself.”

This truth so engrained in nature was observed and honored by America’s Founding Fathers, Lincoln went on. “Most governments have been based, practically, on the denial of the equal rights of men, as I have, in part, stated them; ours began, by affirming those rights. They said, some men are too ignorant, and vicious, to share in government. Possibly so, said we; and, by your system, you would always keep them ignorant and vicious. We proposed to give all a chance; and we expected the weak to grow stronger, the ignorant, wiser; and all better, and happier together.”

And, Lincoln emphasized, even at that time, when slavery still existed in some states, the liberty enshrined in our founding documents had brought about unprecedented prosperity. “We made the experiment; and the fruit is before us. Look at it. Think of it. Look at it, in its aggregate grandeur,” Lincoln urged. How much more can we say so today?

The Biden-Harris administration and its ilk told us that the world would burst into flames if we did not sacrifice our hygiene, our rights, our property, and our comforts. Yet they continued to jet the world for exclusive, luxurious events and parties. It was all a lie, just as America never saw such economic growth as in the century following the abolishment of slavery, contrary to 19th century Democrat propaganda.

Just as the slave owners who lauded slavery never wanted to switch places with their slaves, just so now the Democrats who decry gas powered cars will never give up their gas powered private planes. The Democrat Party is as anti-American and dishonest today as it was in Lincoln’s day.
