The announcement that U.S. Senator JD Vance is Donald Trump’s 2024 running mate is a victory for the citizens of East Palestine and all Americans who, like the Ohio town, suffer from Biden administration incompetence and disdain.
After a derailment accident caused a toxic spillage crisis exacerbated by the government response, JD Vance was one of the most vocal advocates for the affected town of East Palestine, Ohio. The Biden administration, in contrast, made it pretty clear that the only “Palestine” it cares about is the one run by Islamic terrorists. With JD Vance as Trump’s VP, not only East Palestine but all other citizens suffering from Biden administration policies can hope that an advocate for their interests will be on the ballot.
After the February 2023 derailment occurred, Vance criticized “the Transportation Department’s regulatory approach to our nation’s rail system” in speculating on causes behind the accident. He was even more energetic, however, in exposing the apparent failures of the Biden administration in responding to the catastrophe. Indeed, Joe Biden did not visit East Palestine until a year after the disaster occurred, a disturbing sign of gross indifference. Vance, in contrast, went more than once to the town to look at polluted waterways and more — indeed, just like Donald Trump, he hurried to the scene of the disaster.
In March 2023, Vance posted a video clip of himself in East Palestine with the comment, “Toxic chemicals are still just sitting in piles in East Palestine. President Biden: show some leadership and help these Americans clean up their community.” In the video, he pointed to a mound of toxic dirt on a farm and said, “The Biden administration and the EPA [are] making it harder to get this stuff into licensed facilities.” The Biden EPA had specifically ordered a halt to shipping such waste out of East Palestine. Despite the major environmental impact, Biden’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) initially refused assistance to East Palestine.

When PJ Media’s Kevin Downey Jr. visited East Palestine last March, he noticed many pro-Trump signs but also a number of anti-Biden banners. Sure, the area was probably largely pro-Trump to begin with, but even leftist media have admitted that Trump’s trip to East Palestine while Biden stayed away was a significant point in the 2024 campaign. Politico has also speculated that Trump’s encounter with Vance in East Palestine could have paved the way for Vance’s being chosen as VP candidate. Trump praised Vance’s Railway Safety Act following the derailment and Vance called Trump “a great friend to the people of East Palestine.”
Interestingly, East Palestine Mayor Trent Conaway is also one of the speakers at the ongoing Republican National Convention (RNC). Conaway ripped Biden in January for finally wanting to visit East Palestine a year after the disaster.

Inflation, dropping real wages, and a wave of illegal alien crime are just a few of the crises plaguing ordinary Americans under Joe Biden. East Palestine suffered a literal toxic spill and pollution, but the metaphorical toxic pollution of Biden administration policy has just as surely been poisoning America. Let us hope that JD Vance’s candidacy will indeed be a victory for East Palestinians and hard-working Americans across the country, a blow to the elitist and destructive Biden administration.
