Tammy Bruce alerts us to this one — now that a socialist has been elected mayor of New York (and one who hates guns is on his way out), full-on firearm confiscation has begun.
The New York City Police Department is taking aim at owners of shotguns and rifles capable of holding more than five rounds, demanding such guns be surrendered, altered or taken out of the city.
The demand came in the form of some 500 letters mailed out to owners of registered long guns that are in violation of a 2010 city ordinance. The first option for the letter’s recipient is to, “Immediately surrender your Rifle and/or Shotgun to your local police precinct, and notify this office of the invoice number. The firearm may be sold or permanently removed from the City of New York thereafter.”
The notices, mailed Nov. 18, also give owners the options of demonstrating the gun has been moved out of NYPD jurisdiction or modified by a licensed gunsmith to comply with the law.

This is exactly what gun owners who oppose registration fear. Once you’re on a government list, government can decide to use that list against you and demand that you hand over your private, personal property — despite the fact that the right to own said property is specifically guaranteed in the Constitution. This kind of action gives me pause even over having to obtain concealed carry permits. Such permits can amount to creating a de facto gun registry. While my present state government’s Republican leadership would never contemplate confiscation, what’s to say that some future leadership won’t have a different opinion if the state elects a Democrat?
Nothing. The plain language of the Constitution and basic right and wrong no longer matter to them. Democrats nationwide are already showing a) contempt for the Constitution; b) contempt for written statutes; c) allergy to truth; and d) shameless dishonesty. The Democrats’ likely nominee for governor here, Wendy Davis, is already on the record attempting to curb First and Second Amendment rights. She won’t win, but the vast majority of Democrats in Texas and nationwide agree with her on these issues.
New York is crossing a Rubicon. The police who are charged to serve and protect have become willing weapons against law-abiding citizens exercising their constitutional rights.
