Pow Wow Chow: Is Fauxcahontas Warren Just a Combination of Fake Indian Ward Churchill and Vice Plagiarist Joe Biden?

Pow Wow Chow? If Elizabeth Warren is really 100% white, then that book title may be raaaaacist.

Elizabeth Warren was touting her claim of Cherokee heritage as early as 1984, according to a cookbook titled “Pow Wow Chow” edited by her cousin that includes Warren’s recipes for a savory crab omelet and spicy barbecued beans.

The cookbook, edited by Warren’s cousin Candy Rowsey, is a compilation of “special recipes passed down through the Five Tribes families,” according to the introduction in a copy obtained by the Herald.

Warren, who has been under fire for claiming Indian lineage despite a lack of documentation, is identified as “Elizabeth Warren, Cherokee” under each of five recipes she contributes in the cookbook, published in 1984 by the Five Civilized Tribes Museum located in Muskogee. Warren is not listed as an official member of the Cherokee tribe and she has been unable thus far to document her claim of any Native American heritage.

One of Warren’s recipes included Mayonnaise. Which is French. Another is for a Mexican oatmeal soup. Which, obviously, is Mexican. And probably faux Mexican at that. The Cherokee — the real ones — lived in a large area from the eastern seaboard through what is now the Deep South prior to 1838, and were marched by troops that included one of Warren’s ancestors to Oklahoma along the Trail of Tears. Mexico was and still is on the other side of Texas from the original Cherokee territory, for whatever facts might be worth. Maybe Warren’s is a faux Tex-Mex soup recipe. She did teach at UT-Austin at one point in her career. She has not, yet, claimed to be a descendant of anyone who fought at the Alamo, on either side. That I know of, anyway.

The Cherokee are far from amused.

Said Twila Barnes, a Cherokee genealogist: “She needs to admit the truth. There is no documentation showing that she has Cherokee ancestry. She needs to come clean and release her employment records.”

Barnes also called the cookbook “silly.”

“Cherokees don’t even traditionally have powwows,” she said.

In related news, the Warren campaign has released yet another new web video. Campaign spokesman Merle Haggard hopes it will be a huge boost to the campaign.

The two recipes, “Cold Omelets with Crab Meat” and “Crab with Tomato Mayonnaise Dressing,” appear in an article titled “Cold Omelets with Crab Meat,” written by Pierre Franey of the New York Times News Service that was published in the August 22, 1979 edition of the Virgin Islands Daily News, a copy of which can be seen here.

Ms. Warren’s 1984 recipe for Crab with Tomato Mayonnaise Dressing  is a word-for-word copy of Mr. Franey’s 1979 recipe.

Mrs. Warren’s 1984 recipe for Cold Omelets with Crab Meat contains all four of the ingredients listed in Mr. Franey’s 1979 recipe in the exact same portion but lists five additional ingredients. More significantly, her instructions are virtually a word for word copy of Mr. Franey’s instructions from this 1979 article. Both instructions specify the use of a “seven inch Teflon pan.”
