Sen. Tom Cotton took to X recently to indict China on the heels of the CIA finally acknowledging that COVID-19 very likely emerged from a CCP-run lab in Wuhan.
The agency’s assessment is very true—albeit years late to the party. This begs the question: if random citizens on social media could figure out the lab leak reality back in 2020 (and get their accounts permanently suspended for “misinformation,” as I did), why do we need to funnel billions of dollars to the CIA every year?

But I digress.
Here’s what Cotton wrote on X:
I’ve said from the beginning that Covid likely originated in the Wuhan labs. Communist China covered it up and the liberal media covered for them. I’m pleased the CIA concluded in the final days of the Biden administration that the lab-leak theory is the most plausible explanation of Covid’s origins and I commend Director Ratcliffe for fulfilling his promise to release this conclusion. Now, the most important thing is to make China pay for unleashing a plague on the world.
Unfortunately, what Cotton, like the agency, neglected to mention in his X post is that it was American public money (fiat currency manufactured out of thin air that turns into debt for future generations of American taxpayers to pay, for the record) funneled by an American Public Health™ agency (Anthony Fauci’s NIAID) through an American “nonprofit” organization (EcoHealth Alliance) that subsidized the endeavor. Gain-of-function research was nominally illegalized in the United States in 2014, so Fauci and Co. simply offshored it to the CCP.
As a disclaimer, no one who knows me in my personal life or who has followed my work for any amount of time would ever accuse me of being soft on China — China, and the Chinese at large, are indeed a global menace that I have seen up close and personal far too often during my years in Asia. I have no love for China for myriad reasons I have elaborated on before and might again someday.
China is certainly responsible for its role in manufacturing SARS-CoV-2.
The answer to the question, though — how China could be made to pay without kinetic war is less clear, as it has been willing to flaunt the “international rules-based order,” as neoliberals call it, for years now — is not clear.
Given Cotton's unapologetic and aggressive neoconservatism — he has previously suggested the United States go kinetic against China if it invades Taiwan — one could be forgiven for surmising that he is suggesting the answer to COVID-19 emerging from Wuhan is going to war with a gigantic regional and arguably global superpower armed with nukes and likely to be backed by Russia, Iran, North Korea, etc., a military adventure that would not be anything like overthrowing Saddam Hussein, as fraught as that was.
At any rate, the real problem with the statement is that neocons like Tom Cotton don’t want to focus on the very active and arguably way more central role that America’s own intelligence and Public Health™ services played in the creation of the virus in the first place, to say nothing of the solutions (lockdowns, forced masking, and the so-called “vaccines” that killed and maimed not just Americans but many millions more worldwide).

The kids on the internet call this a “limited hangout”: reveal a partial truth in order to push through a particular agenda that wouldn’t necessarily make sense if the whole truth were stated plainly.
CCP leadership is, for better or worse, safely ensconced in well-guarded palaces thousands of miles and an ocean away.
Anthony Fauci and all of his treasonous, terrorist collaborators who didn’t receive pardons are sitting pretty, comfortable as hell in suburban D.C., well within reach of the long arm of the law and waiting for a leader with the stones to bring the (metaphorical, nonviolent) war to them.
