CNN: ‘It’s Time to Limit Travel’ for Climate Change

Futurist utopians once envisioned a destiny for humanity populated with flying cars, endless leisure time, and human fulfillment. This was the bounty of all-important progress — the overriding virtue of technological innovation. “Progress” was sold as the great liberator of humanity.

That narrative has collapsed slowly over time, incrementally, replaced with “shut up, eat your bugs, and die in your coffin apartment, peasant.”

And now we have the true vision of the technocrats, slowly but steadily so as not to create unmanageable outrage, coming into starker contrast with their previous promises.

Via CNN (emphasis added):

The summer of 2023 was very significant for the travel industry. By the end of July, international tourist arrivals globally reached 84% of pre-pandemic levels. In some European countries, such as France, Denmark and Ireland, tourism demand even surpassed its pre-pandemic level.

This may be great news economically, but there’s concern that a return to the status quo is already showing dire environmental and social consequences.

The summer saw record-breaking heatwaves across many parts of the world. People were forced to flee wildfires in Greece and Hawaii, and extreme weather warnings were issued in many popular holiday destinations like Portugal, Spain and Turkey. Experts attributed these extreme conditions to climate change.

Tourism is part of the problem. The tourism sector generates around one-tenth of the greenhouse gas emissions that are driving the climate crisis.

The negative impacts of tourism on the environment have become so severe that some are suggesting drastic changes to our travel habits are inevitable. In a report from 2023 that analyzed the future of sustainable travel, tour operator Intrepid Travel proposed that “carbon passports” will soon become a reality if the tourism industry hopes to survive.

Of course, if they could have gotten away with it, the technocrats would have used the COVID-19 pandemic to permanently shut down international travel, writing, as they did, glowing articles at the time celebrating the dramatic reduction in carbon emissions caused by the lockdowns.

The only reason they allowed anything to open back up was not new evidence or a moral revelation, but because they realized that they couldn’t sustain the lockdowns and keep their grip on power. At some point, tensions would have boiled over to the point that they threatened their hegemony. So they eased up — temporarily.

This is critical to remember: the amount of social control they will exercise in the name of “climate change” or Public Health™ or whatever cause is directly tied to what they believe they can get away with. There is no ceiling to the totalitarian control they would like to exercise. The sky’s the limit. Popular blowback — the peasants armed with pitchforks — is literally the only check on their power.
