Occupy Oakland protests in FAVOR of child sex trafficking
On Wednesday, June 13, members of the Occupy movement protested against a conference dedicated to combatting child sex trafficking — thus, the Occupiers in essence were coming out in favor of one of society’s most loathsome moral crimes.
The protesters mostly were members of Occupy Oakland Patriarchy, a group within the overall Occupy movement tasked with overthrowing our civilization’s “patriarchy.”
The conference which so infuriated them was called HEAT Watch, short for the National Human Exploitation And Trafficking Watch Conference.
If there’s one issue that unites Americans of all political stripes, it’s the sexual enslavement of children. Whatever our opinions on other issues, we all agree that sex trafficking and the prostituting of children is an outrage and a tragedy. Thus, conference attendees included liberal, moderate and conservative politicians; progressive nonprofit organizations; law enforcement groups; religious leaders; and (according to the conference Web site) “social services, medical providers, mental health, education, probation, and community-based organizations.” In short: Everybody.
Everybody, that is, except Occupy Wall Street, who somehow found a way to oppose the abolition of child sexual slavery. In order to justify this seemingly incomprehensible and repugnant position, the Occupiers performed some of the most amazing moral gymnastics you’ll ever encounter. I’ll give them a lot of room to explain themselves in a moment, but first let’s get a glimpse of the conference, the protest, a small counter-protest, and the completely bizarre behavior of the Occupiers.
The first thing passersby encountered was not the conference nor even the protest but instead this one-man counter-protest. He alone had the cojones to come out and oppose the Occupiers with his own confrontational counter-narrative: “Defend the Children from the Occupy Molesters.” I imagine his point was that, by espousing the practice of child prostitution, the Occupiers are morally responsible for their molestation; though perhaps his accusation was more direct and literal — hard to say.
He had also written a very large warning in chalk on the sidewalk in front of the venue; it was so big that I couldn’t capture it all in one photo, so I stitched together two images to reveal the full sentence: “Counter-demonstration: Defend Child Sex Traffic Conf. from Occupy Molesters.” Since in this version we’re asked to defend the conference (rather than the children) from the Occupiers, one can safely assume that his accusation was more metaphorical than literal.
Around the corner, the Occupiers assembled at the side entrance of the convention venue, the Marriott Hotel inside the Oakland Convention Center on Broadway.
The Occupy narrative was very convoluted and can’t be coherently summarized in just a few images — in fact, they remained pretty incoherent even with all the space in the world to explain themselves — but we’ll get started with a few of their signs. This one said “End Police Terror Against Minor + Adult Sex Workers.” This is based on the Prime Directive of Occupy Oakland’s worldview: The police are mankind’s #1 enemy. Cops are invariably malevolent, and their actions always rank as “terror.”
Building block #2 for the Occupy argument: Rescuing an immigrant girl from a lifetime of sexual slavery at the hands of an evil pimp counts as “racism.”
Hell, why am I even bothering with this? When you act as the Occupiers did at this protest, your violent aggressive behavior trumps any message you may have had. After protesting on the sidewalk for a while, the Occupiers went berserk and staged a full-frontal assault on the conference. The security guards somehow managed to repel the invasion, as the Occupiers then hurled paint-bombs, bottles of unknown liquid, eggs and other projectiles at the hotel. Amazingly, they were so proud of all this that they uploaded their own video of the assault:

Meanwhile, inside the conference itself, everything remained calm. The event announcement board nonchalantly listed the conference among other meetings at the hotel.
Most everyone was attending various sessions, so the lobby was pretty empty.
Many of the booths had heartbreaking displays. What form of political psychopathy would lead someone to oppose the abolition of child slavery? The Occupy movement has always been its own worst enemy; has it now become society’s worst enemy as well?
Back out at the protest, one thing became clear: Occupy Oakland seems to have developed a burning hatred for “NGO”s, i.e. non-governmental organizations, better known in the U.S. as “do-gooder nonprofits.” While there may be a few suspect NGOs with ill intentions, the vast majority exist only to help people. Whether or not that help does any good is a separate issue; but most at least try to benefit society.
But in the Occupy universe, any NGOs which cooperate with the “pigs” are nothing more than a “racket.” Which means those folks trying to end the sexual enslavement of children are villains. The Bay of Rage site’s official announcement for the protest clearly spelled out the Occupy position in this dispute:

The H.EAT. conference is a conference of pigs and their nonprofit lackeys to increase the harassment, imprisonment, marginalization and criminalization of sex workers. Fronting as a conference against “child trafficking,” this conference brings pigs and nonprofits together to develop policing strategies that line their pockets while leaving sex workers exploited and disempowered. Pigs and nonprofits hide behind lies about “safety” and “protection” while they profit off the incarceration and “reformation” of sex workers. These pigs and nonprofits neurotically plug their ears to the fact they themselves are exactly the reason sex work can exist. Sex work, like all forms of work, can only exist within a society based on hierarchical economic systems like capitalism, which are protected by the police and patronizing reformist organizations that keep exploited people from revolting. The pigs are the enemies of sex workers, and of all workers.
Let’s shut this fucker down!!!!!

“Molotovs not NGOs” reads this sign which encourages violence to defend the practice of child prostitution.
The protesters’ main banner said “Fucking to survive is life under capitalism.” This succinctly sums up the nearly incomprehensible cognitive dissonance at the core of the Occupy Oakland Patriarchy philosophy. They manage to hold two mutually exclusive thoughts simultaneously:
1. We are sex workers and proud of it, and there is nothing wrong with prostitution, so stop oppressing us with your prudish laws; and
2. The only reason we are compelled to have this degrading and unpleasant profession is that capitalism forces people to exchange labor for money — only a total anti-capitalist revolution can put an end to prostitution.
Now, needless to say, one would go insane trying to maintain both these ideas at the same time, which is apparently what has happened to the members of Occupy Oakland Patriarchy.
But don’t take my word for it. I will now give them a chance to explain their position. Here is the flyer that the protesters were handing out to passersby:

While the flyer tries to present a somewhat mollified explanation for their opposition to the conference, the protesters’ violent actions and in-your-face signs tell a different story.
This was my favorite sign of all: “Get those fucking fuckers out of my Fuck.”
Another protester dispensed with words entirely and summed up her position by displaying on her back an anatomical chart of a vagina and reproductive system. And here I thought the whole point of the feminist movement was to elevate women beyond just being “a life support system for a pu**y.” Guess I misunderstood.
The protest was mostly female, but there were some men there as well, including these two: One with an Occupy Oakland/Anonymous shirt, and another with a pit bull on a leash and a shirt that said “Destroyer.”
“FTP” is a such a common acronym in Occupy parlance that it doesn’t even need to be explained any more. For the uninitiated: Fuck The Police.”
This guy was hanging around the protest making snide comments, though I couldn’t tell if he was an official Occupier or just a hanger-on. Anyway, here’s a sample of the kind of things he was saying about the people in the conference:
“The people in the conference are the molesters and they’re projecting. That’s what I think: I think the people in the conference are molesters, and are projecting.”

Before the attack on the hotel, the protesters gathered to give some speeches, but they seemed to focus mostly on how everyone within a 500 foot radius was either a police spy or an FBI agent. Group paranoia?
Back out on Broadway, the lone counter-protester stood in his silent vigil, never saying a word.

Dude, take a pill. A bunch of corrupt officials sitting around a table pretending to solve the child sex problem on our dime deserves to be protested. Their methods are ineffective and create other problems and forms of oppression. Protesting them is not the same as supporting child sex slavery and saying so is intellectual laziness.
The intellectual laziness is on the protestor’s part. Or I should say rank stupidity. If you want to protest for legalized prostitution then do so. Don’t do it at a conference to stop human trafficking!
The political tone-deafness of the protestors is an amazing thing to watch. It really is harder to imagine a dumber thing to do, if you’re trying to build a mass movement to effect change in society, than to protest a conference to stop human trafficking. What on earth do they hope to accomplish?

Actually, it’s getting more and more difficult to cover the Occupy movement, as they fade away. But I think it’s useful to do a small bit of coverage every now and then, just to remind people how demented the Occupiers really are. The moment we stop proving our case, the MSM will start rehabilitating them.

Didn’t Elizabeth Warren claim to be the intellectual basis for the Occupy movement? I flew into Oakland the 13th and had a few free hours. I wish I had known to come by and watch. And to meet the Zombie of course!
Doesn’t this stuff make one wonder just who these people are? How do they support themselves? Should they be medicated or simply locked up? My oh my the amazing variety of the human race.
Well, according to the protesters, they support themselves by “fucking for $$$.” But they only do so because they are forced to live under an oppressive capitalist patriarchal system in which they must sell their labor to survive. Under a purely communistic matriarchy, there is no money, no barter, no oppression, and thus no need to “fuck for $$$.” Of course after about six months there’d also be no food, no electricity, no police, no medical care, no functioning technology –but hey, we’d all be free!
Just count yourself lucky you didn’t come by to watch. Any passerby or rubbernecker who dared to wander near the protest was accosted and harassed for being a “police spy.” The only way to blend in was to wear a bandana over your face.

NAMBLA was very old-school, pre-feminist and pre-deconstructionist, and very male-dominated; OOP is extremely post-post-modern, the blending of Marxism, feminism, nihilism, amorality, matriarchy and all sorts of late-stage “isms.” NAMBLA was never this sophisticated — there was never much of a deep philosophy behind their movement aside from “we want sexual access to children without repercussions.”

Used “Harrison Bergeron” for years as a screen name. I always wondered how a doctrinaire leftist like Vonnegut could come up with such a cautionary tale. Then I read somewhere on the web that his sympathies were actually with the Handicapper General. Vonnegut actually intended the story as a warning against rugged individualism. I’m guessing that some publicist recommended a few tweaks from the draft that would make the story marketable to sane people.
What they want is communism. They seem to think that if they follow in Stalin’s footsteps they’ll not muck it up as bad as EVERYONE else has.
This was the most bizarre, mind-numbing example of cognitive dissonance I have ever seen in my life. Holy crap how do people actually come up with taking positions on public policy like this?? I can understand not liking capitalism and thinking there might be a better way to run things (your wrong but I get the argument) but this is so convoluted I just can’t even take it seriously.

To be fair, the local ABC affiliate did a short clip on the protest the evening after it happened, but it was late in the broadcast and seems to have slipped by the general public unnoticed. And the socialist rag The Bay Guardian also wrote an article. So the “professional” press didn’t ignore it completely — just mostly.

OTHER GRAD STUDENT: “Well, I think the point is that we are supposed to reconsider the rights of children to have their own wants and desires and realize that thinking of them otherwise is another form of oppression by the patriarchy.”
Yup… 15 years ago in the hallowed halls of academia, it was “obvious” that we had to “rethink” what childhood means. This is one big reason I’ve always felt we were heading the wrong path when we try children as adults. What are we saying about childhood when we do? The (proper) relationship between child and adult is the very last piece of our idea of family that the left needs to destroy. Be careful! Watch for its erosion by alternative definitions of “child” and “adult.” Remember that the attack on language is part and parcel of the attack on our culture as a whole.
Also, your excellent comment refers back to my Deconstructing SlutWalk post last year, in which the feminists were obsessed with the concept of “consent”: Rape is any sexual activity which happens without complete consent by both parties.
And yet many of that same type of protester (and for all I know some of the very same individuals) also appeared at this child-sex protest, and yet in this case they seem to be arguing the exact opposite position: We should not interfere when an adult has sex with a child. And yet, what does that imply: That children have the ability to “give consent” to sex?
If this argument is pursued, it would mean the removal of all statutory rape laws, and if a grown man has sex with a 5-year-old girl, for example, prosecutors would have to prove that it was forcible rape — or “rape rape” according to the eternally discredited Whoopi Goldberg — otherwise the adult would walk free. Since the act would likely happen in private, and any good defense lawyer would tear the 5-years-old’s testimony to shreds, then we’d enter into a free-rape zone, in which adults could rape children at will.
Yup, that’s the way they are going. Of course, the ability of defining who is free to give “consent” (sexual or otherwise) is pretty darned garbled since for years the feminists have argued that women could not exercise free “consent” because they are so overwritten by cultural forces that they can only act in ways defined by the patriarchy that oppresses them. That deconstruction stuff really cuts all ways, doesn’t it? It’s a small matter, since you refer to the group’s full name only three times, but—as per their website, Facebook page, Twitter feed, printed materials, etc.—it should be Oakland Occupy Patriarchy, not Occupy Oakland Patriarchy. If we’re going to know our enemy, we must first learn our enemy’s name.
I realize that, but in this rare instance I couldn’t refrain from “correcting” their odd and intentionally confusing name.
Everyone, from the Occupiers themselves to the media and anyone else you can think of, refers to the overall group “Occupy Oakland.” Occupy Oakland has some sub-groups, such as “Occupy Oakland Capitalism,” “Occupy Oakland Gentrification,” etc., each of which has a name constructed by adding a specific noun to the end of the “root name.”
Of all the sub-groups, only “Occupy Oakland Patriarchy” crazily and ungrammatically reverses their name to be “Oakland Occupy Patriarchy,” which makes absolutely no sense. I think they switched the words around just to be contrarian and ornery and to drive everyone nuts. Just like everything else about the group, their name is illogically reversed, for no reason other than to confront and smash normalcy.
But I’m just so sick of playing along with their little mind games, so I took the liberty of spelling out their name “correctly,” even though I have no rationale to do so, other than being contrarian-contrarian. Two can play at that game.

I have said it for years and I guess I have been proven right that, within my lifetime, people would begin to support pedophilia openly. I was wrong though in how long it would take, by my guess from about 15 years ago, I said within 20 years, I was short by 5 years.
The protesters got a few things wrong, besides their whole dogma, that really stuck out. One held a sign saying that Trafficking Enforcement = Racism + Deportation for Immigrant Women. How wrong could she be? Those who have been brought here from foreign shores, to work as sex workers (prostitutes, et al), are not treated as criminals by federal authorities but as victims. They get legalized and are allowed to stay in most cases. They are afforded more rights than you or I. I know, I worked for a federal LE Agency that dealt with them.
Then there was the whole thing about ‘sex work’ only being possible because of capitalism. hasn’t that been the war cry of the communist since the inception of communism, that capitalists cause all the worlds problems by way of capitalism! If that were true then there would be no prostitution, no pedophilia, no sex trafficking to or from, countries that are under communist rule. The fact is though it just is not so. In fact, many people who have been trafficked into the USA come from communist countries that do not indulge in the practice of capitalism but are strongly communist and socialist.

Do you have a link to verify your claim? Neither the band’s Web site nor the shirts offered on sale thereon, nor a general Internet search for their logo reveals this design anywhere. If that was their design, it must have been a long time ago.
It’s not a big deal — even if it is a George Thorogood shirt, the protester is wearing it because it says “Destroyer” on it as a political statement — but we’d need to see evidence.

Well, I don’t really care one way or the other, and it’s merely an extremely peripheral side question; but I only express doubt because to this moment I have never seen a photo of the shirt or logo in a context that would associate it with the band. Thus, for all we know, that retro music Web site is just selling the shirts as a sort of funny gimmick.

Employer: “We abide by a dress code. Are you comfortable wearing business professional clothing during the weekdays and business casual on Fridays? Also, hair styles must be well kept, no colored dyes or distracting fashions. And hygiene is a trait that is highly desired…”
Occupier: “I believe in personal expression. Clothes, hair, and hygiene are outward manifestations of how one feels and thinks. Dressing in a business dress suit demonstrates that I am assimilating to the patriarchic capitalistic system.”
Employer: “…our company believes in trickle-up advancement. Are you okay with starting at a lower wage level while working your way up?”
Occupier: “Preferably not. I mean, I did get a B.A. from the University of California. That means I am more skilled than most. I would like a higher salary to start with.”
Employer: “Yeah…Well… Ms. Smith…”
Occupier: “Clit.”
Employer: “…uh huh…it was…interesting…to meet with you today. We’ll contact you if you are selected for this position.”
During the Mayday Occupy March here in Seattle, while the “Black Bloc” anarchists, who made up a significant portion of the marchers, were smashing the windows of downtown shops and passing cars, the Lamestream anchors dutifully told the audience that we musn’t confuse them with the “law-abiding” Occupyers who sheltered them while they doffed their black togs and screamed obscenities at the police who hauled them away.
A larger crowd of demonstrators who rallied at the Federal Courthouse on June 8th for religious freedom, meanwhile, was covered by ONE channel.

Occupier: “Well, I attended Florida State University for general psychology…”
Employer: “…Oh, that’s a prestigious University…”
Occupier: “…I suppose…but I dropped out. The education was subpar and degrees don’t mean anything.”
Employer: “…and why do you say that?”
Occupier: “The concept of education is an idyllic cognitive construction upon which the human psyche prejudges individuals. In turn, degrees are merely symbols. They are meant to divide us. Society dishes them out in order to choose winners and losers. I don’t feel like being a part of that game. I know I am smart. That’s all that matters in the long run.”
Employer: “…Yeah… So Dick, do you have any relevant work experience with computers or data analysis? Your resume is rather vague on this point. It says that you utilized computer technology to ‘facilitate discussion, participation, and action during meetings and events’. What exactly does that mean?”
Occupier: “I utilized the Face-Book communication database in order to coordinate social activities with other colleagues, locally and nationally…”
Employer: “Interesting. What kinds of ‘activities’?”
Occupier: “…throwing bricks through store windows to protest capitalism’s use of cheap labor; defecating on top of police cars to protest unwarranted oppression; using spray paint to spread our message of creating a cleaner and more aesthetic environment to live in; demanding local stores donate food to the homeless and ourselves; intimidating passerby’s going to and from work; promoting drum circles in the middle of city parks and major thoroughfares for greater artistic awareness; and protesting the volunteered capitulation by young adults going into the military…you know, just the usual stuff.”
Employer: “…I see…”
Occupier: “But, I did have to maintain a database, of sorts.”
Employer: “Such as?”
Occupier: “Creating separate Face-Book group pages in order to organize our various aggregative messages and to schedule our social events. I also analyzed corresponding Twitter comments to gauge the effectiveness of our various movements.”
Employer: “Uh-huh… so, exactly what is the general purpose of your various movements again?”
Occupier: “To shed light on the hypocrisy of capitalism and the absurd requirement that all individuals should have to work in order to gain ground in this world…”
Employer: “And you are applying for this corporation’s position of assistant data analyst?”
Occupier: “Yes”
Employer: “Cognitive consistency must not have been an emphasis in your undergraduate curriculum…”
Occupier: “I never graduated…”
Employer: “That has been established….anyway…Dick….our corporation includes optional stock options after a one year accrual of employment…”
Occupier: “Wall-Street manipulates us and controls the government. There is going to be a New World Order if we do nothing to stop it…you should read my blog sometime.”
Employer: “…but, on second thought, that doesn’t seem like it will pertain to you anyway. So, Dick…where are you currently living?”
Occupier: “On Jefferson and 21st.”
Employer: “Oh, that’s an affluent area. Do you rent one of the apartments or do your parents let you lodge?”
Occupier: “No…I live ON Jefferson and 21st. That’s where our headquarters is, underneath the awning of Bob’s Deli and Wine.”
Employer: “…is this why you have pine needles and noticeable wet stains on your shirt and corduroys?”
Occupier: “Well, the other park had a pond for laundry…”
Employer: “You can’t use a facility?”
Occupier: “And support corporations like Tide and Bounty? That would be really hypocritical…”
Employer: “Much like this interview?”
Occupier: “What?”
Employer: “Well, Dick, it was a pleasure meeting with you…*pushes button on desk**…I hope that you find our Security gaurds accommodatingly gentle on your adventure downstairs. Have a nice day…”
While the report was good the language was not. The occupiers behave like brats with no regard for others around and do so because they can. They don’t worry about consequences anymore because they know there will rarely be any. On the other hand, you have the responsibility to present the story in a way that is truthful yet without offense. Swearing is offensive whether its on a sign or comming out of someones mouth. News in the past was able to censor all that garbage and we’d get the drift. But using the “F-Bomb” to emphasize your point… or….because you can… I think is behaving just like them. Swearing is lazy sleazy language and…because I can….I choose to end my subscription with PJ Media. I DID want to share this on my FB page. But not after I read your presentation.
That’s your choice. But the censoring of the craziness and evil of radicals is what allowed those radicals to survive and thrive all this time — because the media would simply not show to the public just how extreme the extremists are.

I think I saw someone else mention this as I scrolled down to the comment fields, but a LOT of those children and adults brought here by sex traffickers were trying to leave Communist/Socialist/otherwise Oppressive societies, thinking they had got a good deal to be smuggled into the USA, only to find out that they are being forced into the sex industry. Prostitution (child and adult) is a serious problem in Oakland. I am curious of the stats. How many child prostitutes are arrested in Oakland. What programs are available to them after arrest, after conviction, and after being released to their pimps on bail. See, these girls do get abused by their pimps and police. Zombie, have you ever known a child prostitute? I’m guessing no, neither have I. I do believe for a fact that these girls have seen atrocities from both sides of the law. Police are men. I’m sure we all have the ability to do an internet search and find many reported cases of these crimes. So this is only said to bring an open minded look at picture 4. These woman/girls are exploited on both sides of the law. I will admit the tale has been beautifully spun “OOP child molestors”. As twisted as this world is I’d put money down that one of the conference attendees is a child molestor too. Many factors lead a young girl to prostitution, abuse, financial means, and security. Now if the money was spread a lttle more evenly do you think these problems would rise or fall. If it’s really a concern, why have the pimps, the traffickers, the dirty cops,and john’s avoided arrest, conviction, and other consequences from society?

I didn’t want to suggest any particular course of action to you in my earlier comment, hence the call for “longtime PJM readers” to “not welcome” this person. I know different PJM authors have different policies regarding this.
This was perhaps a harder call though due to the fact that William was agreeing with the correct sentiment regarding child rape (for which he should be applauded). On the other hand, he did publish his website (in his name) — a clear invitation to view it. And as you no doubt saw, his website wasn’t exactly “Walt and Mearsheimer” articles.
I know that some people will say “but what about free speech?” It seems to me, while the Federal Government is obliged to enforce free speech, an author/blogger is under no such obligation. The fact that William was and is able to publish a website full of unapologetic anti-Semitism of the first order is in fact a testament to our free speech laws.
So, again, I appreciate your decision.
On a more germane note, I went to Cal (UC Berkeley for the uninitiated) and later worked in the City (that would be San Francisco — to those of you who are New Yorkers: I realize that must strike you as funny — it did me — but that’s what northern Californians call it).
Upon finding how different Berkeley was from the small southern town from whence I was raised, I was in heaven. Then, gradually, I “experienced” “The Naked Man,” “The Bubble Lady,” “The Polka Dot Man” (who only spoke to women, as I learned to my chagrin when I tried to speaking to him only to be told to “F*ck off”), and other assorted cartoon characters. I still have buzzing through my ears, “The people, united, will never be defeated” — over and over again — always irked that it didn’t rhyme.
After a few years the… immaturity of Berkeley left a sour taste in my mouth. The lack of hygiene of so many there didn’t help either. I guess what I’m trying to say is that, from one former Bay Area resident to you: I strongly empathize with the self control you must exercise in order to take your great pictures.
More importantly though, you are serving an important function in documenting this (truly) Marxist / Leftist fringe. We should all be enlightened as to what will happen if people of this ilk come to serious power.

Know what you mean. I left Berkeley 18 years ago for exactly the same reason. I too was acquainted with Polkadot Man and Bubble Lady. But it was the degradation of public spaces I resented the most. Crazies everywhere, trash in the streets, closed-down buildings, bums and tramps lunging at you as you negotiated the streets. Not to mention the sinister looking street thugs that skulked along Telegraph Ave. Every time I went back to Berkeley to visit it was worse. More shabby and run down. More bums and more crazies.
Once, in the fifties, Berkeley was a nice college town. There were political radicals, commies, pacifists etc. but a really decent place to live. Look at it now.
The ONLY reason I wish I was back there would be to able to join Zombie’s team of reporters. Okay, maybe he doesn’t have a team. But it’s great work, and I wish I could do something that important in exposing the looniness of Berkeley.
