ME TOO

Well:

The White House appeared to leave the door open Monday to delaying the so-called individual mandate in the federal health care law, as President Obama acknowledged the main website for enrollment is not working as it should.

Press Secretary Jay Carney addressed concerns over the mandate at a press briefing shortly after Obama, in the Rose Garden, personally acknowledged failures with the HealthCare.gov site and vowed that “these problems are getting fixed.”

Carney was peppered with questions on whether the administration would be open to delaying the requirement on individuals to buy health insurance, if the website continues to lock out would-be customers. Echoing Obama, Carney said repeatedly that the country is just three weeks into a six-month enrollment process and suggested it’s too early to make any decisions of that magnitude.

But he did not close the door on the option.

Delaying the individual mandate is only evil when Republicans want to do it.

I'm ambivalent. On the one hand, I want as many non-Romney voters as possible screwed over by ObamaCare. IIUC, the people hit by the IM are generally the kind of people who voted for Obama, or didn't vote. So they deserve the IM. Further, the Exchange policies suck for normal people, so forcing people to spend a lot of money in order to get sucky ObamaCare insurance is a definite win.

On the other, cancelling the IM for a year really screws over the insurance companies that supported ObamaCare in exchange for the IM. Even better, the result of cancelling the IM for a year means that next year's Exchange rates will be even higher, and those will be getting announced 5 - 6 weeks before the Nov 2014 elections, which is the perfect time for the screaming to hit.

That last is why I expect Obama won't back down on a delay.

Does Obama have the authority to delay the mandate? I'd like to see the Republicans force him to come to congress to ask for a delay, except that I'm sure they'd have no plan in place to deal with the media message that the bad Republicans are preventing Obama from fixing what's wrong.

He didn't have the authority to delay the employer mandate ... or subsidize Federal exchange, or subsidize Congressional health care insurance policy premiums, etc. etc.

No! Absolutely NO delays for Obamacare! Tell the Dems, "You had a chance, and you were willing to destroy the nation rather than delay Obamacare. Your decision is now FINAL."

Oh, all right; they can abolish it completely. But either "In" or "Out"; no halfsies.

Do not debase Overly Attached Girlfriend by using her in this way. This feels like more of a Socially Awkward Penguin moment.
