As Ron Burgundy might say, that escalated quickly.

Lerner has come under renewed scrutiny this week on two fronts. Emails show that she was aware of a key email that later went “missing.” More importantly, other released emails show that she sought to hide information from Congress as it was investigating the IRS targeting of Tea Party groups.

The House has the power to arrest and jail on charges of contempt.

Update: Rep. Stockman has published the text of the resolution on his website.

RESOLUTION

Providing for the arrest of Lois G. Lerner to answer the charge of contempt of Congress

Whereas Lois G. Lerner, former Director, Exempt Organizations, Internal Revenue Service, has been found to be in contempt of Congress for willfully and intentionally refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena duly issued by the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, thereby obstructing the Congress in the lawful exercise of its constitutionally mandated legislative powers; and,

Whereas such behavior is an insult to the dignity of the House of Representatives, an attack upon the integrity of its proceedings, works violence upon the rights of the House collectively, and therefore implicates the long-recognized inherent power of the House to punish and commit for contempt, privileged under the Constitution; and,

Whereas recent history with similarly contumacious and insolent witnesses such as Eric Himpton Holder, Junior, strongly suggests that the present statutory judicial rubric set up to punish and reform such insubordinate and obstructionist witnesses would be ineffective in this case, as it is likely that the US Attorney for the District of Columbia would refuse to perform his lawful duty to bring the offending contemnor Lerner before a Grand Jury and prosecute the same for her misconduct pursuant to section 104 of the Revised Statutes of the United States (2 U.S.C. 194) and section 102 of the Revised Statutes of the United States (2 U.S.C. 192); and,

Whereas the executive and judicial branches’ prolonged and dawdling failure to prosecute Attorney General Holder’s insolent contempt of the 112th Congress strongly suggests that a like proceeding against contemnor Lerner would be similarly futile, and the threat of such prosecution has clearly been insufficient to encourage contemnor Lerner to be honest and candid with the Congress regarding the heinous actions of the Internal Revenue Service;

Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the Speaker issue his warrant, directed to the Sergeant-at-Arms, or his deputy, commanding him to arrest and take into custody forthwith, wherever to be found, the body of Lois G. Lerner, and bring her to the bar of the House without delay to answer to the charge of contempt of its authority, breach of its privileges, and gross and wanton insult to the integrity of its proceedings, and in the meantime keep the body of Lerner in his custody in the common jail of the District of Columbia, subject to the further order of the House. While in custody, Lerner shall enjoy no special privileges beyond those extended to her fellow inmates, shall not access any computer or telephone, and shall not be visited by anyone other than her counsel, clergy, physician, or family.

Lois Lerner's response:

Pardon me?

And Obama will.

Lawlessness does not stop, it has to be stopped.

The Marxists will not roll over. They have seized the government and weaponized its agencies. Expect pardons...AND retaliation.

At the risk of angering people, I am of the mind she should be granted immunity. Before you start throwing stuff, let me explain. As some have pointed out, if she gets put in jail, charged with a crime, there is always the very real possibility of a pardon. More importantly though, this is not about Ms Lerner and what she did. I honestly could care less what happens to her, although I would love to see behind bars. BUT, the important thing here is the truth. What happened and what was done at the IRS, by whom, how, when - all of it. Because if we don't get to the truth, this whole incident will become a footnote in history. Unless, like Nixon's second article of impeachment, this becomes a learning moment for Americans that Constitutional matters are taken seriously by the people, then government wins, we loose. And, I believe the only way we will get to the truth is by giving Lerner immunity. Let the story be told. Let government learn from US, that we care what they do. Let government re-learn that, in this nation, it is government by the people. If we allow this issue to become about Lerner, we have lost our way. It is not about her. It is about the Constitution of the United States of America. Okay, now you can start throwing stuff...

I wish to abjectly apologize to the person (or entity) who reported and then had my earlier comment deleted;  guess I offended some trigger-warning-sensitive sensibility (poor dear).

(Actually, I fail to see why everyone here doesn't truly have the same emotion welling up in their hearts at the *wonderful* news this post brings. Who here could *not* be drooling in anticipation of seeing Lerner behind bars forthwith??

And who here would *not* wish to pours a glass of their favorite libation in celebration of that wonderful news?

Just askin'...)

Let me try again. I will rephrase my comment:

WHOOOOPIEEEEE!!!!!

FIFY. Better now?

Since she was doing the Republican Establishment's dirty work as well as that of the left, I don't see this going anywhere. I suspect that somewhere in the "lost" emails there are some from the Republican leadership "suggesting" targets.

TALK TALK TALK....when will somebody actually DO something. Boehner and the GOP are proving to be worthless. BOTH parties have to be in on this scat together. At the very least it's the old 'honor among thieves'. BOTH parties know more than they let on and they also know if We the People knew the TRUTH about how Obama came to be potus...and the dirty laundry involved...We would want to hang some people for TREASON. None of what we are experiencing is by accident. It's ALL by design...this presidency is a farce. We've been PUNK'D

Lerner is just a symptom of a BAD disease...incurable? That is the $64K (dating myself) question. Time will tell. Time is also running out.

As Ms. Lerner has remarkably written, "Perfect." And while she has her respite in jail, give her a copy of the Constitution to read.

This is good news for 2 reasons.

First it gets the Republican establishment in the fight. They are firing with small guns like a 5" naval gun instead of 16" battleship broadside. But large battles often start from small skirmishes.

So here is what y'all have to do. Keep the pressure up on the Boehner to continue. The other side will fire back and testosterone and the survival instinct will take over in 'some' Republican establishment types.

Some might argue that we need to read carefully lest we inflame the Leftists base. It will. It will also inflame/encourage our base as much or more.

Consider this analogy. They use to keep hospital uncomfortable cold under the theory that it was detrimental to microbes. Well it was detrimental to people as well. Patients came out worse as a group then if they had kept the temperature at a normal level. Why would we make this same mistake in the realm of politics?

Second, Lois Lerner needs to be labeled. The jail time will make her popular on the Left. It will also make her radioactive. she cannot be allowed to slink into a sinecure job like Napolitano.
