The rabbit hole keeps getting deeper and deeper.

We read earlier in the week that the IRS employed an email storage firm to backup communications at the agency.

The Daily Caller is reporting that the IRS canceled its contract with Sonasoft, an email archiving company, just weeks after it was learned that Lois Lerner’s hard drive had crashed and months before the six other employees targeted in the congressional investigation had their computers crash as well.

The IRS signed a contract with Sonasoft, an email-archiving company based in San Jose, California, each year from 2005 to 2010. The company, which partners with Microsoft and counts The New York Times among its clients, claims in its company slogans that it provides “Email Archiving Done Right” and “Point-Click Recovery.” Sonasoft in 2009 tweeted, “If the IRS uses Sonasoft products to backup their servers why wouldn’t you choose them to protect your severs?”

Sonasoft was providing “automatic data processing” services for the IRS throughout the January 2009 to April 2011 period in which Lerner sent her missing emails.

But Sonasoft’s six-year business relationship with the IRS came to an abrupt end at the close of fiscal year 2011, as congressional investigators began looking into the IRS conservative targeting scandal and IRS employees’ computers started crashing left and right.

Sonasoft’s fiscal year 2011 contract with the IRS ended on August 31, 2011. Eight days later, the IRS officially closed out its relationship with Sonasoft in accordance with the federal government’s contract close-out guidelines, which require agencies to fully audit their contracts and to get back any money that wasn’t used by the contractor. Curiously, the IRS de-allocated 36 cents when it closed out its contract with Sonasoft on September 8, 2011.

Lois Lerner’s computer allegedly crashed in June 2011, just ten days after House Ways and Means Committee chairman Rep. Dave Camp first wrote a letter asking if the IRS was engaging in targeting of nonprofit groups. Two months later, Sonasoft’s contract ended and the IRS gave its email-archiving contractor the boot.

IRS official and frequent White House visitor Nikole Flax allegedly suffered her own computer crash in December 2011, three months after the IRS ended its relationship with Sonasoft.

The obvious question: Is there a link between the cancelling of Sonasoft’s contract and the possible desire of IRS officials to cover up its targeting program?

There are a lot more questions than dots to connect. Was the cancelling of the contract a budget measure, or something more sinister? What happened to the emails Sonosoft archived? Who signed off on the cancellation order?

Not sure about this but…the IRS has the obligation to retain archives, not Sonasoft…the entity contracted to manage the archive. If the IRS terminates Sonasoft’s contract, the IRS is obliged to contract a replacement entity to maintain the years of archived information.

So I’d guess that Sonasoft, once terminated, is not under obligation to continue maintaining the archive – they were fired from that job. In fact, I imagine Sonasoft, once terminated, would be contractually obliged to destroy any copies of the archive under their control as the information is sensitive and you don’t want to leave sensitive information with someone/something you just fired.

I’d also guess that that is exactly why Sonasoft was terminated…to force the destruction of the archive.

The Federal Records Act requires that these e-mails be retained for a minimum of seven years, and permanently for "senior officers in decision making positions." Where are the Sonasoft back-ups? Were they destroyed? If so, who ordered that? If not, disgorge them.

No, one does NOT have to leave open the "possibility" that this is all innocent.

Lois Lerner plead the fifth amendment because testifying truthfully might tend to incriminate her.

NO explanation about how the "magic virus" crashed only the high value suspects, only in the time period when they are conspiring to commit treason, and the miraculously all the backup mechanisms are cancelled and scrubbed of material evidence AFTER a duty to preserve them arose.

No...nobody has to keep open an idiotic claim of complete innocence.

Because tamping down the justifiable outrage would be the work of a collaborator or a suck up trying to curry favor with totalitarians.

It is time to call this what it is. An intentional attack on citizens, a gang rape of liberty and a conspiracy that should meet universal condemnation and the harshest penalties possible. No greater crime exists. Because this crime is an existential threat to freedom and the entire fabric of this nation.

Now, if (and I say 'if') her hard drive actually crashed, and if (again, 'if') that caused the loss of emails, the normal procedure would be to replace the hard drive, re-image it (re-install all the software) and then restore the backup - that's what backups are *for* after all. And at that point, the emails are again being backed up on schedule. So all those emails would have been preserved and maintained.

So, really, tape recycling and 3rd-party services are really not relevant; they're just shiny things to lead us off the scent.

The truth is that it's a very simple and straightforward situation; and the IRS are lying through their teeth about it.

It doesnt matter what you or I think. All that matters is that the MSM is running interference and disinformation for the regime and the average voter will be uninformed about what happened and just know that anybody that points out the inconvenient truth is a nutter who hates black people.

I keep getting pinwheels and delays. Is this what happens when a website is under government surveillance? Or is this just your standard cyber attack?

WE NEED MORE THAN WHISTLE BLOWERS IN THIS CASE. WE NEED A WHOLE BRASS BAND WITH GIANT BRASS ....
Balls. The emails that contain all the incriminating evidence used to be on personal computers with phony email names and addresses that have already been destroyed and never were part of the archival IRS system. The EPA played the same phony email names and addresses trick. We don't know what we don't know -- unless someone who does know talks.

A good place to start is to have the FBI raid the homes of the 7 or 8 IRS employees who crashed their work computers and take EVERYTHING. Of course we don't know if the FBI can be trusted.

Enough. Put Lois Lerner in jail for impeding a criminal investigation. No criminal investigation yet? Come on Congress. Do your jobs!

It is all too much "in your face" and looks like an attempt to divert attention to a hunt for missing records... that will be found eventually. And oops... There will be nothing there, because all real exchanges took places on their personal computers and face-to-face conversations. But the time will be wasted.
