Just in from the Romney campaign: Mitt Romney will announce his choice for Vice President in Norfolk, Virginia at 8:45am EST Saturday.
Location of announcement: USS Wisconsin. Nauticus Museum.
(USS Wisconsin. Does this mean Ryan? Stephen Hayes and Bill Kristol at the Weekly Standard think so.)

Wouldn’t Ryan be better able to lead the fight for entitlement reform from the House?
If Romney is supposed to be this big economic genius who will save us all by his business brilliance, what does he need Ryan, the supposed expert on the budget and economy, for? Picking Ryan is an admission that Romney isn’t all that on the economy after all, otherwise, what does Ryan add to the ticket??
Of course, in fact, Paul “Let’s spend $40 trillion in ten years” Ryan merely wants to slow down the bus to 80 mph over the cliff, as opposed to Obama’s 100 mph. Ryan is not a positive addition, unless by positive addition you mean adding $$$$ (and dishonestly calling increases in spending “cuts,” just like the Dems (or any other Washington insider)).
Here’s Ryan’s plan, as posted on the House website –
Spending levels per year:
FY2012 – $3.624 trillion
FY2013 – $3.530 trillion
FY2014 – $3.476 trillion
FY2015 – $3.536 trillion
FY2016 – $3.690 trillion
FY2017 – $3.824 trillion
FY2018 – $3.977 trillion
FY2019 – $4.199 trillion
FY2020 – $4.409 trillion
FY2021 – $4.605 trillion
FY2022 – $4.888 trillion
or
$40.135 trillion over the next ten years
So much for that pledge to go back to 2008 spending levels.
An extremely wise choice. Ryan is brilliant. In this video he is face to face with Obama telling how much much money his healthcare bill has robbed from SS and medicare. The look on Obama’s face is bewildering.
A must watch video for all:

Oh yes – the dizzying spreadsheet-and-three-decimal places is always a convincer.
If you are saying that romney is somehow not capable because he chose another capable person to help him, that sounds really stupid to me. Are you trying to say the only way romney can prove he knows the economy is to choose some idiot that does not. I would think him choosing an eminently capable vp would instead prove that he DOES know what needs to be done, and has gotten an extremely capable person to help him do it.
As for the ryan plan only slowing down spending growth, instead of actually reducing it, that is enough to solve the problem as long as we get any growth at all. Ryan reduces spending vs GDP, which is the key measure, and as long as we get some growth this will eventually close the deficit. This is especially true compared to obama, who will not even slow down the rate of increase.
It really WAS a bold move by the Romney campaign, putting their sole reliable constituency — old white people — in play. The man who hates dogs picks the man who hates old people. Ending Medicare and SS won’t work in Florida, so Romney can kiss Florida buh, bye. lol
From April’s Esquire piece on Ryan:
“Make no mistake: Ryan is a thoroughgoing nutball, as bug-house crazy on economics as Peter King is on Muslims and Steve King is on anyone swarthier than himself. He is a lifelong adherent to the doctrines of Ayn Rand, which ought to disqualify anyone from ever being taken seriously enough to park cars by anyone over the age of fifteen.
In terms of their connection to actual human reality, the difference between the doctrines of Ayn Rand and the doctrines of L. Ron Hubbard is not substantial, and the fervor of their acolytes is almost exactly the same. Picking Paul Ryan to handle your political economy is tantamount to electing Tom Cruise to be pope.
Paul Ryan is a thoroughgoing fraud. He went through high school and most of college on Social Security survivor benefits after his father’s death. He voted for almost all the Bush programs — including both off-the-books wars — that ballooned the deficit he so piously condemns now. And this week, as he rolled out his lunatic conception of a federal budget, Paul Ryan produced the definitive statement of his political philosophy: There are those Americans who deserve to live and those Americans who don’t. Period. All of the former are very, very wealthy. All of the latter are poor, or struggling, or old. Paul Ryan believes the true mission of government is to bring as much pain to the parasites as it can because, by doing so, it can liberate the genius of those people who deserve to live. When Paul Ryan dreams of a free nation, it is one in which the seventy-two-year-old spouses of seventy-five-year-old patients are free to go out and shop in a rigged insurance market for the $100,000-plus they’re going to need over a lifetime of tending to that patient. If they insisted on feeding themselves, and even risking the odd vacation, over the course of their working lives and they failed to anticipate what might befall them, then the spouse is going to have to starve and the patient is just going to have to sit there in his own filth, until market forces determine that they should die.”
This is the greatest gift the GOP has given the Dems since Sarah (Governor Quittypants) Palin.
I hope you keep on thinking that, but I think old people are not quite as stupid as you think they are. Consider this:
1. The Ryan changes only apply to future seniors, not current ones, so anybody depending on medicare now will see no change at all, so any commercials with old grannies are complete lies.
2. Medicare needs change, or else it will go completely broke in the future. Better small change now, that worse changes later.
3. Obama is the only one that has actually cut medicare for current seniors, when he took out about 500B from medicare, to finance a non-medicate new entitlement with Obamacare.
The Romney hates dogs comment is almost beneath contempt, but if you wish to talk about dogs, which is worse, putting a dog in a custom made doggie carrier on the roof of the car, where the dog was actually quite happy, or EATING DOGS.
You know why Ryan is a good choice? go back and watch that joint congressional meeting they did on health care with POTUS. He cant stand Ryan.
You got that right. I saw that conference and I saw Ryan out speak Obama. The O’man did not like that. I’ve been for Ryan since.
Good choice. Now, let’s get the nomination done so the money can roll.
I agree. Nobody knows more about the budget that Ryan, and in addition to knowledge, he knows how to debate the dems on this issue and win. It was an inspired choice by romney.
Intrade has Ryan at 80%.
Reports coming in that secret service has detachment at Ryan’s residence.
Herr Hussein Obama’s campaign strategy is inadequate to maintain him in a serious action such as Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will put to him. He has corruption in the coop, hate on the hoof, taqiyya on the tongue and bats in the belfry — that’s his campaign strategy. He can probably maintain himself in the type of fighting Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will give him in Mexifornia and a few states on the North East front. After that it will make no difference how many thousands of dead he has voting for him early and often, and if Americans want America and the Presidency back, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will give it to them. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will make Obama howl.

Expect the “Ryan Sex Scandal” (from when he and former wife, actress Jeri Ryan divorced)to immediately hit the news.
Just a predictable head’s up.
#6 Allston:
You forgot the “sarc” tag. Someone is bound to miss the joke.
JWE:
Yeah, my mistake, I figured people here were acute enough to get what I’d meant. Apparently I must explain in greeter detail next time.
/Sarc next time, indeed.
I hope you’re joking, but just in case, that’s the wrong Ryan. That was Jack not Paul.
Please remember whom the opposition is. Do you think they’re beyond claiming this, regardless? Even knowing it’s the wrong person? Seriously.
Yes, I know the difference between the two different Ryans. And Obama knew Joe Soptic’s story was bullshit too, but it’s still airing, isn’t it?
So I repeat: expect to hear all about the “Sex Scandal.”
No no, “Allston” was clearly mixing up the actual guy with Paul Begala.
Something like that.
You do know the difference between Paul Ryan and Jack Ryan, right?
Old news, fortunately… all the Seven of Nine fans will bring it up, though.
Probably a fake out with Ryan. My uninformed prognostication says Rubio… or Pawlenty….or Portman…etc.
Then why announce on board USS Wisconsin?
Uh, that was Jack Ryan. If Paul Ryan were sleeping with Jeri Ryan, that would be a scandal.
Uh, no, that was Jeri Lewis the famous comedian.
@Allston – that was Jack Ryan, not Paul.
Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will be the quintessential Americans like George Patton and Joe DiMaggio. They will attack the usurping tyrant boldly on all fronts and at all times and at this this they will not flag nor fail. They will never succumb to the siren call of the regime’s propaganda ministers that will permeate the television waves. They will not bargain with this tyrant and his propaganda ministers. they will not try to reason with them as the tyrant and his dirty lackeys will grant no quarter for them and if they can, they will destroy them and their families and all of America without remorse. They will follow the tyrant Hussein Louie Obama to the inmost recesses of his mind and make him fear and dread the very sight and sound of them. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will never let up and they will make the Child Emperor’s fear of them permeate his thoughts from when he rises in the morning until he retires at night, where he will be allowed only a brief respite in between his nightmares as his day of reckoning approaches and he is made to howl.
My only concern is the attack ad fodder Ryan will make. Other than that I think Ryan is a good choice. This is what Shaun Hanity has been hinting at for the last couple of days.
My thoughts exactly. The MSM and Obama’s campaign (I know I’m being redundant there) will have a field day with Social Security, etc. Everybody else will a brain will say, “It’s about damn time.” I hope.
Some talking head in the other room just said the word “Ryan” along with “unconfirmed”, but why at 8:45AM Eastern? Is Romney not aware of the different time zones in the US? Is Saturday an optimal time in the news cycle at all? I – don’t get it.
As for the decision – I’m glad for Paul, I guess. In normal times I think he’d need some more experience before being on the ticket, but then these are not normal times.
Ryan is a great choice. Rubio and Jindall are ineligible (not NBCs). Ryan is a TRUE conservative and has written the ONLY budgets passed by either house of Congress in the last three years. Romney/Ryan 2012!
Both Jindal and Rubio were born in the US. According to long-established precedent & court cases, that makes them US citizens & eligible.
Oh for god’s sakes get the hell OVER this notion that Rubio isn’t native born. ILLEGAL FVCKING ALIENS WHO DROP BABIES IN THE DELIVERY ROOM THREE MINUTES AFTER THEY CROSS THE BORDER get citizenship for their newborns.
Yes, it is necessary to yell.
You’re correct; unfortunately, sometimes it is necessary to yell. I do citizenship cases for a living (as one part of my job), and if you are born in the US – except under very narrow exceptions – you are a natural born citizen. I am pretty tough on illegal (and even legal) immigration, and would put my bone-fides up against anyone’s on this subject. But, this nonsense needs to stop.
That said, I hope everyone is wrong and Romney chooses Jindal!
The timing doesn’t matter really. The idea is to have Ryan hit all the talk shows Sunday/Monday and campaign all week with him through the swing states. There will be plenty of news generated next week about the vp pick.
I still think Rubio stands a good shake – but I would be pleased with Ryan too. In fact, both were my favorites for President.
Either Ryan or Rubio is infinitely better than the atrophied butt cheeks of O’Babiden. Both Obama and Biden are an utter disgrace and profound national embarrassment.
We shouldn’t be interested in Romney’s VP choice. We should instead be working to persuade Romney to drop out of the race because the only reason he is the presumptive nominee is because the conservative vote in the Republican primaries was split between Santorum, Bachmann, Gingrich, etc. (That was probably no accident. The party’s moderates know that splitting the conservative vote is the best way for their moderate to win.) If Romney is president, that’s going to be a disaster (though probably somewhat less of a disaster than Obama). We don’t need a flip-flopping, morally challenged president. Under Romney’s watch, for examples, and despite what he says (which you can take with a grain of salt), I bet we’ll see not only homosexual marriage but polygamous marriage. Recall that the strange Mormon religion has a history of accepting polygamy and right now some polygamists are in court using the same silly arguments homosexuals use to try to win “polygamous rights.” Bottom line, let’s not be manipulated again (and again and again) into supporting a wishy-washy moderate. Enough is enough. When you add up the votes that went to conservatives in the primaries and compared that total to Romney’s votes, conservatives won the day. Let’s act like winners not losers. Let’s take charge.
Just go vote for Obama and get it over with.
With “friends” like you, who needs enemies.
No, let’s not take charge. Let’s just pray. If our prayers are sincere, Jesus will stuff the ballot box and give us a triumvirate of Bachmann, Santorum and Gingrich and we’ll all go to Heaven.
I like Ryan, he’s a very smart budget wonk with the numbers and intelligence to back it up. But I wonder if he’s “Bull Dog” enough, does anybody think Chris Christie has a chance? I still think Mitt will go with someone safe, especially someone who can make a difference in a major swing state, maybe Rubio from Florida or Portman from Ohio. Ryan from Wisconsin is kinda of a waste of effort because I think Wisconsin will go blue no matter who the VP is.
Is he ‘bull dog’ enough? Yes, he is a clever and capable politician, not just a wonk. Just watch that video, referenced above, of Ryan taking Obama to the cleaners during that health care round table thingy. I would imagine that was the last time Obama ever spoke the word ‘Ryan’. Now he has to face him in an election. Fun!
The party that nominated John Edwards for VP is in no position to tell us who to pick or why.
– will be destroyed by the Dem-media by this time tomorrow. The toady press will run against his strength. Too soon to announce.
Ryan is smart, articulate, moderately photogenic and, maybe most importantly, has more conservative creds than Romney. That will help get out the vote everywhere. Picking a Veep to bolster one state would be a huge mistake. As for Christie, see all of the above NOT. I hope Romney chose Ryan and he accepted. He might not be as feisty as Christie, but he doesn’t come across as a wimp, and he could easily take Biden to the cleaners. He only needs a two word vocabulary for that: wrong, lie.
Ryan schools the airhead Child Emperor
Announcement in 7 hours, EST. Better hit the sack. May God be with this Republican team, for the fate of this country hangs in the balance. The recent polls concern me, and I will pray hard that America wakes up to the dangers of a second Obama term. In 78 years I never before feared for my beloved country as I do today.
InTrade now has Ryan at 95%, so it’s a virtual cinch now. I don’t think Romney could not choose him now.
And the AP has it at 100%. See my post coming soon.
– to introduce registration here? You and PJM are much too lenient with the trolls.
Battleships–Like Timex watches, they take a hit and keep on tickin’.
Hopefully including ticking off President Prissypants on a regular basis. Engaging in a entitlement battle, engaging the Dems where they live, is exactly what needs to be done.
