Who knows what really happened in the series of bizarre automobile accidents involving US Secretary of Commerce John Bryson, as reported by the LA Times today. But shouldn’t we be appalled that the US Commerce Sec’y is driving a foreign car – a Lexus of all things? Evidently, a Cadillac is not good enough for him, despite the taxpayers having bailed out General Motors for an astronomical amount they will never recover.
From the LAT:
Bryson was driving a Lexus in the 400 block of South San Gabriel Boulevard shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday, when he allegedly rear-ended a Buick as it was waiting for a train to pass, according to a statement released by the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department and the San Gabriel Police Department.
After briefly stopping to talk to the three men inside the Buick, Bryson left the location in the Lexus and then struck the Buick a second time, authorities said. The men followed Bryson’s car and called 911 to ask for police assistance.
Bryson continued to drive his Lexus into Rosemead, which is patrolled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. There, he allegedly crashed into a second vehicle near the intersection of San Gabriel Boulevard and Hellman Avenue.
There authorities found him alone and unconscious behind the wheel of his car.

A car? Are you off your rocker? Public transportation is what he should be taking. Does he hate the planet? Clearly Gaia is angry at him thus the accidents!
Good catch Roger. Carbon belching Lexus’s are evil on so many levels that the Secretary should probably be impeached for even being seen in one.
You ARE being sarcastic with the “gas guzzling” comment I expect. Our Lexus “pumpkin” RX350 gets nearly 29 mpg most drives on the highway and right at 25 in town. And there are nearly always two people inside, which means double that mileage per-person-mile. My 740 BMW gets within 2 mpg of that also, as an aside.
I do agree that the screamers and those who work for them and who are in thrall with them SHOULD walk the walk, since they get rich from talking the talk. Even Faucahontas sold her BMW and bought a Ford Focus when she began her quixotic quest for the Senate seat in Mass.
Wait a second! Are you for free trade, or against it?
I’ve had Lexus cars for a number of years, and they’re great cars. And, I haven’t had to spend hours in GM and Ford dealerships begging for warranty, like I did previous to the Lexus. Anyway, what do I owe to the UAW?
Driving a Lexus doesn’t say anything about whether he’s guilty.
It’s an Alinsky thing – “make them live up to their own rules”
Actually, plenty of Lexus cars are made at Toyota plants in the USA (Lexes? Lexii?…) However, they are mostly in right-to-work states, well out of the choking grasp of the UAW. And I seriously doubt anyone except the unmedicated (or certain OWSers, but I repeat) will associate driving an expensive foreign nameplate with automatic guilt.
Still, the optics of this entire situation are extremely bad. And it begs the question just what led to the secretary’s “seizures”.
Hey DonA, doofus…….he’s the U.S. Secretary of Commerce. He’s supposed to buy U.S. products and since he works for Obamao, his predilection should go towards G.M. Any semi-socialist should know that…….except if hypocrisy is rampant. Which it is with this White House and Cabinet. Get it? Hypocrisy is ruling the roost.
It’s an administration requirement apparently (the car, that is). Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis proudly drives a Canadian car to support American workers.

But then, if you want a truly American-made car, that would be a Toyota:

Lexus is a Toyota brand. In fact, one of the Lexus models is a Camry clone (same assembly line, different nameplates and logos).
The guy’s drunk behind the wheel and the thing you notice is that he isn’t stupid enough to buy from GM?
Well,to be fair, there is a current theory (with the lack of further evidence) that he may have suffered a slight stroke. News at 11?
Yes, because a stroke causes somebody to get back in their car and drive away from the scene of an accident.
it’s called irony, look it up.
There is significant Lexus production that occurs in the US. Honda and BMW also have US production facilities.
BMW=Bubba Makes Wheels!
Heh. Obama has the keys to that car.
I’ve owned an number of Lexus’s (Lexii??). Anyway, my experience is that they’re bulletproof.
I also own a 2010 Chevy Camaro SS. I don’t feel too guilty because I ordered it before the bankruptcy (even though everyone saw that coming.) And it’s based on an Australian design and it’s built in Canada.
Did he have a seizure before he hit the first car(twice and left the scene),the second car, the third car? Just asking.
I’d ask if it was electric or at least a hybrid, but worse than that now we’re all going to be forced to spend another $3k per car for seizure detectors.
I’m still a little bemused to have a cabinet officer driving around by himself, without so much as a flunky, much less a driver, guard, or motorcade, and even if he was on private business.
Now, if he was up to monkey business, that might be another matter.
Also, when did he buy the car?
If it’s six or seven years old, should he have traded it in when appointed? I would applaud his thrift in keeping it.
From the MSM style guide:
DEM = seizure
GOP = drunk driving
So if I criticize a white guy who works for Obama does that make me a racist at one remove? Or a half racist?
I have to confess, I did feel a little guilty purchasing my last car, a Chrysler PT cruiser, and retiring my old Mitsubishi Galant. After all, my Mitsubishi Galant was built in that find old Japanese city of Peoria, IL, and the “American” PT Cruiser that I replaced it with was ENTIRELY built in Mexico.
Sometimes, the badge on the car tells you very little about where it was made.
Obama’s Commerce Sec. runs car into a ditch…
You know where I find the highest percentage of foreign vehicles? At the teachers’ parking area of the local public schools. Yes, all those union members seem to draw the line on the importance of supporting unions when it comes to their own wallet.
So he’s a Cabinet secretary? That’s so second string. It’s not like he’s an appointed czar, reporting directly to the President.
The astonishing thing is that someone in California still drives a Buick.
Dude was high. Fakes unconsciousness when 5-0 show up. He’s not a lawyer for nuttin…
