NBC News said Tuesday it has concluded an investigation into its repeated broadcast of an edited version of a 911 call placed by George Zimmerman that made it appear he was racially profiling Trayvon Martin the night he killed him.

“During our investigation it became evident that there was an error made in the production process that we deeply regret,” NBC News said in a statement e-mailed to The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday. “We will be taking the necessary steps to prevent this from happening in the future and apologize to our viewers.”
When asked if anyone at Today had lost their job or had been reassigned as a result of the investigation, an NBC spokeswoman said: “We will not be commenting on our course of action.”
NBC should apologize to George Zimmerman, along with the apology to its viewers. That network deliberately smeared him. NBC would not accept such a non-answer about the remedies it claims it is implementing from any target of their own investigative reporting. Why should anyone expect such a non-answer from them? They investigated themselves and claim it was an “error” when — as a professional video and audio editor for more years than I care to admit, I can authoritatively say this — no “error” would result in the edit that they broadcast. To refresh our memories, here’s what transpired during the call and is recorded on the audio:
ZIMMERMAN: This guy looks like he’s up to no good, [begin ellipsis] or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.
911 DISPATCHER: Okay, is this guy, is he white, black, or Hispanic? [end ellipsis]
ZIMMERMAN: He looks black.
And here’s how NBC’s “error” rendered that sequence:
“This guy looks like he’s up to no good … he looks black,” Zimmerman told a police dispatcher from his car.
“During our investigation it became evident that there was an error made in the production process that we deeply regret,”
Buck Snort. NBC knew exactly what it was doing. They have done it with the Chevorlet Pickup gas tank story.

This needs to be part of a major lawsuit against NBC. This was more than an “error.” It was deliberate, based on the bogus rationalization that “fake but true” is acceptable under the concept of “the end justifies the means.” They assumed that George Zimmerman was a racist and so they made the “news” fit their narrative. This, of course, is nothing new. But the fact that it happens all the time doesn’t make it any less appalling and unforgiveable. The case of Trayvon Martin’s death is murky and controversial enough already without a major international news organization falsifying evidence.

I would love to see the NBC producer/editor/staff who tried to get away with this slander grilled under oath by a prosecutor. The biggest mystery – don’t they know by now that this is 2012, and such Hearst-era tricks are easily exposed (by guys in their pajamas, no less).

I hope Zimmerman sues and winds up OWNING f-ing NBC. He was not a public figure before all this, and NBC slandered him.
And saying that, I still don’t know whether or not he was guilty of a crime, the investigation is far from over. But he was and is still entitled to fair treatment even if he was in the wrong and ultimately goes to jail for it.

Sounds like this is yet another reason to cancel basic cable and look for internet alternatives. Why pay people money who do things like this. I just looked it up, and according to this website, some 30 to 40 cents of your cable bill is going directly to this network. The list is from 2009, so this is probably different now, but the point being that you are paying these people money to do this. Why? Cut them off. Make them fight for the business back.

NBC should be required to fully comment to the public on their course of action, now and for quite some time in the future. Then, for those who suffered damages, whether personal or in the community, pay all expenses and judgments from the law suits that should be generated. It should be noted that GE, the owner of NBC doesn’t pay taxes. But, creating race riots causes damage and depletes available resources, while hurting entire communites.

They made a mistake? They down right LIED about the 911 tape cutting and splicing deliberately altering the contents to give it that good old racial profiling tension they needed to get the mobs angry because nothing makes good news like an old fashion angry mob ready to draw blood. NBC would just LOVE to see rioting in the streets. Nothing like getting to report on an explosion where you plant the powder keg. It’s down right criminal. They did it on purpose. They did it repeatedly. They did it without regard to who would get hurt. They did it knowing it would stir the pot of racial tensions. And they lit the fire and stoked it for days. And now the World has convicted Zimmerman without a trial, without hearing one witness in a court of law, without any due process what so ever. They don’t even qualify as a news agency anymore. They are a televised social engineering club without any respect for actual news. Whether Zimmerman is guilty or not he, like every American citizen, he should have gotten his day in court. Now he’ll never get a fair trial because he’s already been convicted thanks in large part by shoddy story telling by NBC. But, hey, at least NBC helped create the new race class “white-Hispanic”. Maybe we’ll see that on the next census questionnaire.

This is not Dateline’s 1st attempt at racial provocation either. At the April 2006 Martinsville NASCAR race, Dateline had several ‘Muslim-looking men’ in attendance with a camera crew following the men through the stands. And it’s not just that they are trying to provoke a racially charged incident, but that they don’t seem to consider what would happen if they were successful at incitement. ESPN publicly fires a guy for what may have been a real ‘cock-up,’ using the phrase ‘chink in the armor.’ Even if deliberate, this action at Zimmerman is far worse. It portrays him as someone out to get blacks in an atmosphere where a lynch mob is agitated. Let’s fact it: even if a black guy shoots down Zimmerman tomorrow, their will be no apologies from Soledad O’Brien, the entirety of the black press, the NBA, stupid celebrities, and the whole nine yards. They know what they know and that’s that. What can you say about a culture so deluded that it parses out 300% more as opposed to 40% less to mean more whites are on welfare and so “food stamp President” is racist. This is a culture that simply ignores reality, which is makes its own case about equality.
For some reason, this whole incident reminds me of a movie scene where a guy at a party or bar meets a beautiful and witty girl of his dreams and then at some point, he realizes that she’s a hooker.

With regard to the media, The Zimmerman case, like the Dan Rather case are similar moments of enlighenment; once you see it, it is there to see. Some think the hooker, the “gentleman” or the journalist will feel something like remorse or embarrassement when their cover is exposed. But the reality is that they only want their paycheck to continue. It is not any deeper than that.

Absolutely! We have turned off our TV (except for recording some favorite shows). We get the WSJ, but it is getting more and more frivolous and left-leaning also.
The only reliable news NBC puts forth is Weekend Update on Saturday night Live. Weekly World News and The Onion have more credibility than NBC.
Curiously the SF Chronicle put this story up on the front page of their website last night at 7;00PM (West Coast time) and it was gone when I got up at 6:00 AM this morning. It’s almost like they didn’t want anybody to read it.

This statement is true. You just missed the magic Maureen Dowd ellipses that allow you to change the whole meaning of a statement by merely insereting those three magic dots.
Another media distortion is the idea that after the 911 operator told zimmerman to not follow treyvon, zimmerman ignored that advice and followed him anyway, and physically confronted him. But in an unedited version I heard, as soon as the 911 guy said to not follow him, Zimmerman complied immediately, and shifted his 911 conversation to where he should meet the cops that were coming.
In fact, once the 911 guy said “we dont need you to do that”, there is no evidence whatever that zimmerman either followed or confronted Treyvon. In fact, after that, there is some evidence in the unedited 911 tape that at that point treyvon was staring and walking toward zimmerman, not vice versa.
The only independently verified account of any confrontation is treyvon pinning zimmerman to the sidewalk, and beating him up. We have no independent testimony on who started that fight, but it definitely ended with zimmerman pinned to the ground, with treyvon on top of him, and beating him up, supporting a pretty good self defense case at that point.
The only unknown is who started the fight, treyvon or zimmerman. At the moment there is zero independent evidence either way. But if there is no evidence either way, then zimmermans account, that treyvon hit him first, takes precedence, and he should be acquited, and the original decision not to charge him is supported as a sound one.

There’s a columnist named Maureen Dowd (getting old but still thinks she’s a pert, perky young thing. Like Baby Jane) who left out certain parts of a particular quote, making it look like then-President Bush said something that he most certainly did not say. I think this was in 2003? 2004? NBC followed that template this past week in leaving out the part where the dispatcher ASKED George Zimmerman what race the suspicious young man was, so that it looked like he offered the young thug’s race without prompting (so he’d look racist).
I don’t know exactly what Maureen Dowd falsely implied because I stopped reading her columns after one of her 2000 articles was about which presidential candidates she’d “do” ewewewewewwwww-oldladysexTMI. Sorry.
