Nearly $70 just to fill your gas tank nowadays? And the president’s big idea is to burn pond scum? That deserves a subversive thank you card.
The target is Obama and the messages need to directly be at Obama. Although I liked the one at ‘I Own the World’ linked above, your audience may not be informed enough to know of the Keystone XL pipeline or its association with Obama.
Have fun. Put a sharpie and some Post It notes in your car and go to town.

To quote Jonah Goldberg:
“To the left, drilling for oil to make more energy just takes too long, but making energy from windmills, solar panels and algae are always just around the corner”
I dont like obama but if that was a normal car (economical) that takes 9 gallons that would be gallons around $30 to fill up, maybe get a different car/truck one that saves on gas
yes, we can all afford to buy another car.. in order to save on gas (??)
There are a number of reasons a person may not be able to drive a small vehicle.
In my own case, I have both family members and good friends with disabilities, so I need a larger vehicle to have space for walkers, wheelchairs, and the like. They either ride with me or they have to spend a lot more on a cab — public transit is all but nonexistent in this little town, and can you imagine the cab fare if they had to go 100+ miles into the nearest big town for a medical procedure the little hospital here couldn’t perform?
In short, “buy a smaller car” is not a viable option for everyone… and it also sounds suspiciously like something Obama himself would say.
That’s because it IS something that Obama HAS said!
That reminds me of that great joke that goes like this:
Smug Ecofreak: “What kind of car would Jesus drive?
Dennis Leary Type: Gee, I dont know, but Im pretty sure since he has 12 really close friends that go everywhere with him, a Prius isnt going to be his first choice. How about a big Chevy Suburban? Judas can sit in the middle.
How about this.
Blond: “The price if gas doesn’t concern me, I just put in $20 worth every Saturday.”
They car-pooled in a Honda. The Bible says the disciples were all in one accord.
(rimshot)
Get thee to a punnery!
This is actually funny!
Not to mention 3 children…
In Colorado – most families have at least one all-wheel or four-wheeel drive vehicle. On some winter or spring days, you could be stuck without it.
Most economical cars, (Honda, Hyundai, Toyota, ect,) come with a 14-16gal. tank. That still equates to a $50 fill up! Not everyone wants to drive a smart car!
This was the reason the Obama team wanted higher gas prices – to make driving a regular vehicle so costly that people would be ‘driven’ to buy smart cars and take public transportation.
So funny that they’re feinging concern now – they want you our of your car / Truck / SUV and have long thought high gas prices were the way to acheive this.
I drive a Honda Accord, which I believe is just about as average as cars get, compare Chevy Malibu, Ford Fusion, Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, etc. Seventeen gallon tank. Light goes on around fifteen gallons. Times four dollars a gallon is $60. Times five dollars a gallon will soon be $75.
The next level of cars down, the Civic/Corolla, might take a gallon less at fillup. So, unless you drive a very small car and fill up the tank at the halfway point, you’re going to be over $50 these days.
(Toyota Yaris, a very nice econobox, has an 11.1 gallon tank, the Prius 11.9, Chevy Cruze 15.4)
Correction: Civic/Corolla have 13.2 gallon tanks.
My ’04 Civic has a 13.6 gallon tank. The idiot light goes on with about 2.5 gallons left in tank. My last fillup was $42 in MA. Even an “econobox” gets expensive really fast at the current price clip.
I refuse to let Obama dictate what kind of auto I drive. You’re are welcome to obey the wishes of the dictator if you like, but I won’t.
AMEN!
I’m sure your great-to-the-Nth grandfather said in 1855 as sperm-oil prices were peaking, “I refuse to let Franklin Pierce dictate to me what light I burn!”
Sperm oil went the way of the dodo anyway. There’s a lesson there, if you’re able to learn it.
@ #2 – Philip Sori : Fuel tank capacities for many of the new fuel-efficient (i.e. ‘green’) cars and trucks:
2012 Toyota Prius: 11.9 Gal.
2012 Honda Civic Hybrid: 13.2 Gal.
2012 Lexus CT 200h Hybrid: 11.9 Gal.
2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid LE: 17.0 Gal.
2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid FWD: 17.5 Gal.
2012 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid FWD: 17.5 Gal
2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid: 17.2 Gal.
2012 Kia Optima Hybrid: 17.2 Gal.
2012 Ford Escape Hybrid AWD: 15.1 Gal.
2012 Buick LaCrosse eAssist Hybrid: 15.7 Gal.
2012 GMC Sierra 15 Hybrid 2WD: 26.0 Gal.
2012 Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid: 26.4 Gal.
2012 Chevy Volt: 9.3 Gal.
Hmmm. Got an agenda?
Hey, I drive an 89 Chevy 4X4 1500 pickup. I average about 26 MPG with a 22 Gallon tank.
It’s really simple. Congress should limit gas tanks to 5 gallons. Less weight, better mileage. Now when gas gets to $10 per gallon we can still fill up for under $50.
Truth Squad strikes again!
I have noticed lots of Phillip Soris and Josh Scholars popping up on conservative and Libertarian blogs lately.
Oh yes that is a great idea. I will bring my kids to the nearest Planned Parenthood to have them taken care of, then my husband and I could fit all nice and comfy in a Smart Car.
Funny, the most use our car gets is bringing our kids to doctors appointments and grocery shopping. I guess Obama cares more about pushing birth control and late term abortions than the health of my children.
Oh thats right, I should just strap my kids to a bike and ride 30 miles to the grocery store. Ooh I know I should just get a horse and buggy. That is just so Luddite man… groovy!
Then they’ll regulate hay and require you to adhere to strict “emissions” standards for your horse.
Dude, this is PJM. You say ignorant stuff like that, and you are going to get pounded. Which is what happened.
That’s cause the Tatler has the best group of commenters online.
Indeed and I might add, usually the most civil.
I have a little philosophy about message boards, facebook threads etc — they more often than not are akin to walking into a public restroom, looking around for a while then loudly announcing: “There is nothing good to eat in here!”
What really bothers me are smug people who drive “Gore-mobiles” who look down on those who don’t.
I’m 66 yrs old. I live on a pension and SS. I’m stuck with my 7year old car for at least another 5 years. Don’t get snarky and tell people to buy a more economical car. If we had started drilling 5 years ago, we would be seeing more domestic oil by now. Oh, yeah, another thing; thanks Obama for not approving the Keystone pipeline.
Maybe this small article should receive a little more coverage! http://www.independent.org/newsroom/article.asp?id=3256
I guess those very familiar with scum, to include, I guess, pond scum have no problem recommending it to others far various uses. Pres Obama seems quite used to dealing with scum, ie, most of his cabinet qualifies to some degree or another in that category, if not our exalted dear leader himself. At least if they start using pond scum, maybe they will free up some corn to be used for food again, and that might help with the global food shortages.
As to Phillip, above, 9 gallons at what is now close to $4 a gallon, is closer to $40 than $30, but, hey, that is what most people are supposed to get out of the payroll tax rebate, so if they can afford an economical car, which most who will only get $40 back cannot, they could apply that to their 9 gallon tank. I personally have never owned a car or truck with a tank that only held 9 gallons, most hold a minimum of 15 gallons.
Yeah and someone nominated this;……. Bill Maher for “Pond Scum Czar” Sounds about right too me!
Obama’s re-election first rested on “Occupy Scum”, it now rests on “Pond Scum”. Of the two, “Pond Scum” is clearly the more intelligent life form but can it carry Obama to victory in November or will he once again be forced to rely on “Media Scum”?
Its “scummy” no matter how you look at Obama/ his policies/ his campaign etc.
IF Algae actually worked as a fuel source, the left would declare it an environmental hazard to stop us from using it.
How true.
It’s not about “dwindling fossil fuels,” it’s not about carbon emissions, it’s not about fuel economy, it’s about control of “the little people.”
In Obama’s perfect world, only the Democrat Leadership would have cars, everyone else would be on the old broken-down bus.
Part of the Rural Genocide agenda, otherwise known as Agenda 21, perhaps. There is plenty of oil but we have to save the Earth. To save the Earth we have to get rid of all those little white trash babies (scratch those right wing lice you know). Sure you have a “choice” whether or not you get that abortion, but we’ll make sure you can’t afford to raise them.
Back in the 70′s, when we had another progressive president whos policies lead directly to massive problems in fuels supplies, people converted their cars to use propane. Its surprisingly easy to do and at the time propane was well below the cost of gas. More importantly, Propane was readily available where Gasoline ,due to the progressive mindset at the time was doing everything they could to restrict how much gas could be sold for, guaranteeing that there was never enough of it.
The flaw in this little plan to convert to propane wasnt the engineering needed to convert your car over to Propane, its that Propane wasnt subject to Federal and State Gas taxes, which are where highway funds come from.
All of a sudden, it became “illegal” to convert your car to propane, because you know, the state and feds arent getting their taxes from it.
Now, let’s examine this:
Propane, or Compressed Natural Gas:
- In large supply within our borders
- Renewable
- Cheaper than gasoline.
- Logistical infrastructure in place ( storage, transport, sales)
- Easy to convert existing systems ( cars, factories) to use
- surprisingly, its also very clean to burn.
Now, Compare to Algae.
(Crickets…)
I rest my case. You want to impact the cost of gasoline? Make Diesel easier to buy, make CNG easier to use, get rid of 50 different state formulas for gas. That’s not big time engineering thats needed, thats just a case of removing legislative overburden from the marketplace. Its honestly, not that hard if that’s what you want to do.
But the fact is, the liberals want Gasoline to cost more than it does for their own pet projects. They dont want you making your own choices, for where to go and how to get there. They want to restrict you as much as they can and fuel is the easiest way to do that.
See the problem is that if you are free to do what you want, you will probably decide to do something they dont like, and we cant have that now can we?
Right, like choosing to have children instead of making the only “choice” that the left likes.
AGGGGHHHH.
I was born in the teeth of that crisis and I’m in my mid thirties in the middle of this crisis.
How do we make this more effective? How do we enforce this with politicians. how do we demand results and actually follow through with it?
I’d LOVE to revap my 4runner. (It’s a great vehicle that i’m just about to finish paying off and I am NOT immediately going underwater with another loan.
The first company that can make conversion kits relatively cheap and easy will be rich.
I remember 0.89 cents a gallon while I began college. By the time I left college, it was $4.00 it’s hovered very close ever since.
Brazil can do it. How the hell can’t we?!
Obama’s big idea:
Instead of burning gasoline or, better yet, natural gas in your car, burn coal, mined by his union cronies in the coal mining industry, in an electric power plant, and charge up an overpriced inefficient electric car manufactured by his union cronies at GM. Then tell all of the uninformed and dumbed-down masses that this is more environmentally friendly. Then, of course, he will fail to mention that all he’s done is to transfer your gasoline bill to your electrical utility bill.
Obama’s EPA is already set to implement the MACT rules that will make coal all that much more expensive.
It’s not about the environment. It’s about control.
Thats correct. Whatever you do, you’re doing it wrong unless you get permission from the Party Commissar first.
I have no idea how this idiot ever got elected.I drive a Honda fit and it used to take less than 20.to fill up and get 32 to 36 miles per gallon, now it costs more than 30.I live on a fixed income so this is a LOT FOR ME
“I have no idea how this idiot ever got elected.” I don’t know anyone who voted for Barack Obama. I know several people who voted against John McCain.
The zero is doing exactly what he said he was going to do. His energy czar did the calculations and determined that the target price of $9 a gallon is the price point where all the green energy scams become economically feasable.
Nevermind that it destroys the economy in the process.
But then again, that might be the real target. Obama is a disciple of Cloward/Piven and all things Alinsky. So I put nothing so dysfunctional passed this administration on such disturbing thought and reasoning.
Note: My wife has a 2008 V-6 Accord, and when gas last went up in 2008, I put $71.00 in that. Did I mention with the “ethanol” blend, it also gets about 3-4 mpg less than it used to highway? Now that is progress from progressives!
——-
Since Obama and those in urban centers apparently fail to understand that we plains folks, those who supply wheat and fuel and corn and all sorts of other things needed to eat and stay warm, and don’t have the luxury of hopping the sub, I propose that we slap our own surcharge to offset the fuel costs. That way, everyone can share a little more equally in the pain.
How’s about $20.00 fuel surcharge on a basket of wheat for starters? What? You don’t like the $7.00 loaf of bread, $3.00 plain bagel? It’s the Obama way.
We’re already paying a surcharge, thanks to the rising cost of diesel fuel.
Obama doesn’t care if “the little people” can’t afford food, as long as he gets his wagyu steaks, and neither does the MSM. However, imagine if it was President McCain in the Oval Office.
Yes, it is impossible not to notice the multimillion dollar vacations, the steak, lobster and caviar dinners, and parties with hollywood superstars on our dime. While he is living the life of royalty he preaches to us about learning to do with less. What a despicable, hypocritical POS he is.
Right. All of us white trash lice should be eating peas while we wait to be scratched.
But there is no inflation, because the “official inflation rate” leaves out luxuries like food and fuel. Enjoy your chocolate ration, with the new and improved 25 gram bar vs the old 30 gram.
Certainly President Obama “cares” about people who buy gasoline. That’s why he tries to hoodwink them into
thinkingbelieving that the high prices have nothing to do with his policies. His administration has done everything it can to cause gasoline prices to increase dramatically. Doing so is, of course, consistent with the views of his Energy Secretary, Mr. Chu, and others in his administration. The questions are, when and whether the prices will get high enough to convince enough people to vote against him this year.“That deserves a subversive thank you card.”
I would’ve been doing this weeks ago if it weren’t for security cams and the possibility of having to defend against charges of vandalism in a pro Obama zone….
I just ran up against another gotcha. I tried a fillup today. Couldn’t do it: Gas station had a $50.00 limit on credit card sales. What’s it going to take to get rid of Obama, I don’t know.
Credit card companies charge retailers a fee, somewhere around 3-4%. That means that the gas seller is being charged 12-16 cents per gallon when the price is $4 a gallon. That’s often higher than their profit margin for selling gas. Some states limit their ability to pass on the credit card charges, so it isn’t unreasonable for them to limit the quantity you can buy on a credit card.
So PA has special parking for high efficiency vehicles at rest areas along the turnpike. I parked there with a full size passenger van. A prius drive confronted me about parking in said spot since I was obviously not driving a hybrid. I merely replied that I was getting 98 passenger-MPG and inquired what she was getting.
…
no response.
I’ve been running a full on blitzkrieg around here with post its. Independents and even exxon-mobil’s are going out of business like there’s no tomorrow, but BP is expanding.
Grocery stores and gas pumps are fair game to me. No one’s complaining yet. Some people chuckle. This is in lower airplane-ice-hard-blue NY.
Okay, i’ve asked it ebfore and I’ll keep asking it until I get an answer;
Isn’t there some sort of proceedural thing we can do to out this clown and his merry band of complete ****-ups?
Anything to tie down the system at local, state, and federal levels. I’m tired of them running this country into the ground as fast and hard as can be, and I’m not comfortable at all with their competition from the other party.
Please don’t tell me to just vote for the opposition. I’m talking effective tactics that will for true tie up their resources and slow this train the hell down. They seem to be able to find loopholes for their pet projects and their way of doing things, but somehow we can’t find anything and sit here feeeling out blood-pressure rise and watching our neighbors suffer and the nation go on the dole?
We need cheap energy. Petroleum, coal, natural gas, nuclear power all MUST be front burner get your asses in gear na dbuild drill, connect and supply!
I have a Geo Tracker with an 11 gallon gas tank, which seems to be the smallest mentioned so far. $40 fillups. It’s sort of dumb to talk about the price per fillup, because if you have a smaller tank, you are filling up more often. You’re paying price * miles / mileage regardless, and every extra dollar spent on gas is another dollar not spent on the goods and services that keep your neighbors employed and in business.
There’s also a number of us fly-over/Redneck Riveiera (I’m in Pensacola) cretins who didn’t succumb to the murderous blandishments of “Cash for Clunkers” and proudly still drive vehicles made early in this decade…and the last…and the one before that…yes, and the ONE BEFORE THAT.
They hum right along at 24+mpg city (with one notable exception), although that crappy ethanol is now eating away at older lines and the gas mileage has suffered as well.
We’ve done our bit and gotten bitten by pissy voters who sat on their hands because they didn’t like McCain and “the GOP deserved what it got!” Yeah, schmaybe. But the COUNTRY sure as Hell didn’t.
Down here is SW FL you can still by 90 octane ethanol-free gasoline if you look around. Call your local fuel distributor.
I use it exclusively in all my small engines, the old corvette that mostly sits in the garage, and the boat. And the generator.
“Ethanol-free” gas can usually be found anywhere that a lot of boats fill up, I’d think in Pensacola it’d be easy to find good old fashioned gasoline.
Ethanol is murder on boat engines
My post it will read “Thanks, President Pond Scum.” His sliminess has now been formally adopted in policy.
This sign should say “Thanks, Bernanke”
Gasoline prices are actually near an all time low – but so is the dollar.
What you see at the pump is the result of a very loose monetary policy to back the very expensive fiscal policy.
Google priced in gold.
But Bernanke isn’t asking religious people to violate their conscience. Nor is he apologizing to Afghans as they kill our soldiers in cold blood. Nor is he unleashing the DOJ to assault our 2d amendment rights. I could go on but stratgically, we focus on the weak point. We can vote this SCOAMF out.
Dear sock-puppet, school up. Read 13th gen. We don’t have the numbers to commit brute political acts of strength. If you were born under Carter, 1/3 of your friends are ghosts. 1/3 of all pregnancies ended in abortion, across all class and income lines, in the seventies. Look to your left, you have a real friend in real life, that you can persuade to vote your way. Look to your right, there’s a ghost. A happy, friendly ghost, one hopes. But still – not voting, breathing, flirting with you in biology class in high school.
The book 13th gen takes up what happens when one small generation follows up on a bunch of idealistic, narcissistic, completely insane folks- think- just past the Civil War. You will never, ever, ever get credit in your lifetime for thinking sensible, measured thoughts. The yahoos ahead of you will think you are mingy. your children will think you somewhat un-idealistic and probably traumatized ( think David Swindle taking on Star Wars fans). However, these sorts of personality traits are very appreciated by grandchildren.
And, well, you can communicate in sly and direct fashions. That’s valuable. You aren’t perorating like a boomer- you sound different.
That’s pretty much what we’ve got. sense. we’re the generation that gets to say if the emperor is nekkid, jay-bird stark no-feathers nekkid.
go and learn. you’re in the lever group, not the hammer, not the sword.
and I do have to do that stupid blonde joke- $20 at a time, unless I get a fill-up on husband’s paycheck day. we just bought a minivan for getting the kids around. It’s beautiful.
Which means, of course, my kids can invite their friends to vacation bible school, and offer rides for sports practice, and for youth group events. they’re future bitter-clingers…
and, you know, the bus companies are finally realizing that buses are not family-friendly. If they can’t hold the line- can Obama?
my harley gets 42 mpg
