What Will Humanity Look Like in 2045? [2 Videos]
Russia 2045 is a new futurist/transhumanist movement started by a group of Russian scientists. Here’s their vision of mankind’s evolution over the next 30 years (the text from the conclusion of the above video):
In February of 2012 the first Global Future 2045 Congress was held in Moscow. There, over 50 world leading scientists from multiple disciplines met to develop a strategy for the future development of humankind. One of the main goals of the Congress was to construct a global network of scientists to further research on the development of cybernetic technology, with the ultimate goal of transferring a human’s individual consciousness to an artificial carrier.
2012-2013. The global economic and social crises are exacerbated. The debates on the global paradigm of future development intensifies.
New transhumanist movements and parties emerge. Russia 2045 transforms into World 2045.
Simultaneously, the 2045.com international social network for open innovation is expanding. Here anyone interested may propose a project, take part in working on it, or fund it, or both. In the network, there are scientists, scholars, researchers, financiers and managers.
2013-2014. New centers working on cybernetic technologies for the development of radical life extension rise. The ‘race for immortality’ starts.
2015-2020. The Avatar is created — A robotic human copy controlled by thought via ‘brain-computer’ interface. It becomes as popular as a car.
2020. In Russia and in the world appear — in testing mode — several breakthrough projects:
Android robots replace people in manufacturing tasks; android robot servants for every home; thought-controlled Avatars to provide telepresence in any place of the world and abolish the need business trips; flying cars; thought driven mobile communications built into the body or sprayed onto the skin.
2020-2025. An autonomous system providing life support for the brain and allowing it interaction with the environment is created. The brain is transplanted into an Avatar B. With Avatar B man receives new, expanded life.
2025. The new generation of Avatars provides complete transmission of sensations from all five sensory robot organs to the operator.
2030-2035. ReBrain — The colossal project of brain reverse engineering is implemented. World science comes very close to understanding the principles of consciousness.
2035. The first successful attempt to transfer one’s personality to an alternative carrier. The epoch of cybernetic immortality begins.
2040-2050. Bodies made of nanorobots that can take any shape arise alongside hologram bodies.
2045-2050. Drastic changes in social structure, and in scientific and technological development. All the
for space expansion are established.
For the man of the future, war and violence are unacceptable. The main priority of his development is spiritual self-improvement.
A new era dawns: The era of neohumanity.

I suspect such neo-humans will have as much contempt for us as many (or most) people wrongly have for people of the past. They will be commoditized humans and they will be terrifically arrogant, and probably tremendously fascistic as their upgrade path will probably be controlled by the State. These organisms will be fierce in their defense of the mechanisms which give them access to the goodies which make them function. Wealth differentials and other factors will determine who gets upgraded, and will determine how much of an upgrade and when any coterie receives them. What happens when an entire community of upgraded neo-humans lives adjacent to a community without the upgrades? Some will not have access due to relative poverty. Some will object on spiritual grounds. Such neo-humans will be far superior to in terms of physical health, strength, upgrade-ability, longevity, intelligence. They will be beautiful monsters of our own creation. What happens when organisms with average IQs of 200+ meet organisms with IQs averaging 100 as we do? One group will have difficulty staying out of cages… This is our dark future, I fear.
Drudge report made the strange mention that people, at least in the us over 20 years have grown their brains by the size of a tennis ball. and have long faces. they have quit growing taller.
this may be why the new kids on tv have giant jaws. i always thought it was surgery or special effects.
don’t exactly know what is significant about the size of a tennis ball. Wikipedia says that is 160 cc. Sounds like the difference in size between a neanderthal and modern man. (we had the smaller brains but were more ruthless)
I get what you’re saying, but the average IQ is set at 100. People have been answering more and more questions right so that 100 IQ is more intelligent than a 100 IQ 40 years ago.
Anyone listening to the first video for a minute will see that the Communists “are back.” They sneer at the idea of a new civilization (as though we were not in desperate need of one) and then go on to blab about “a new humanity.”
Sorry guys. You already tried it and flopped. Human nature is not nearly as malleable as you fools seem to think.
I thought it was a foregone conclusion. People will all be equal, love each other without limits, and will only use one square to wipe their butts because they love the planet too.

This is the old “new soviet man” in spiffier clothes. The new soviet man w as promised to be selfless, egalitarian, communal, tolerant and infinitely malleable by the party overlords. Of course the experiment was a total failure. The same totalitarians who brought you that disaster are rebooting for another try. Anybody who talks about transforming humankind is a murderous fanatic. Communists killed 100million in the quest for their utopia; these neo-communists will happily kill as many for their glorious nano and cyber utopia.

Bingo. In the meantime, the mortality rate of the human race is still 100%. We’ve seen enough of what happens when man assumes he knows more than he does, more than he REALLY knows (as with the AGW nonsense.) I’m all for progress, for finding out all we can, for ameliorating the difficulties of the human condition, etc. As Chesterton said, “progress” is a comparative of which we have not settled the superlative. These folks believe they have settled the superlative, as did Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao and on back into the antiquity of Aristotle and Plato, and further.
There are things about the human race without which we are no longer human. The best book I’ve ever read about this is a short 90 page affair called The Abolition of Man. It may prove to be C.S. Lewis’s most enduring and prophetic work. The questions it poses still stand. The video says “we need a new metaphysic.” Really, why? Because the old ones are untrue (as far as they go?) Or because they tell us of our limitations and we don’t like hearing that?
And I thought the singularity was suppose to be here by 2029. What is all this 2045 crap?

Sorry, but I’ve been hearing this since I was 6 years old and I read “You Will Live Under The Sea” which posited that, but 1980, we would all be living beneath the ocean in Utopian cities with dolphin attendants. Nope, I expect that in 2045 we will squabbling over Sasha Obama’s qualifications for President and watching “American Idol.”
Of course, we will also be listening to prophecy from Eric Holder’s disembodied head, but that is another story.
