Manmade climate change is real — and it was used to murder 300,000 chickens in South Carolina:
James Laverne Lowery was arrested Tuesday after 12 warrants were issued for his arrest stemming from the deliberate killings of the birds.
“He hurt farmers in this county who work every day to feed their families that had no ax to grind with him, but yet he punished them as well,” said Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett, who estimated the total loss at around $1.7 million.
Nearly two months ago someone broke into chicken houses in the Clarendon County area and tampered with climate controls, some birds died from overheating, while others froze to death.
In just three incidents, vandals were suspected of killing the chickens on farms licensed with Greeley, Colo.-based Pilgrim Pride, the largest chicken producer in the world. Garrett believes the person or people doing this were extremely angry with the company and wanted to hit them where it hurts.
