The “Brooklyn Sound” was just one of the early ’70s many underappreciated subgenres — an R&B/funk hybrid infused with a touch of disco in a way Motown and Philadelphia never quite equaled. It didn’t last very long, supplanted on the New York scene after just a few years by the Hip-Hop movement coming out of the Bronx. But it was sure fun while it lasted, as BT Express demonstrated on Soul Train with this performance of “Do It (‘Til You’re Satisfied).”
And that’s all I have to say about that, except that by the age of six, I wanted to grow up to be the guy singing “Whatever it is…” in the background vocals.
