Sign "O" the Times

Here we have a totally unintended and not-at-all-predictable consequence of Professor Ditherton Wiggleroom’s terrorists-for-hostage deal:

A Taliban commander close to the negotiations over the release of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl told TIME by telephone Thursday that the deal made to secure Bergdahl’s release has made it more appealing for fighters to capture American soldiers and other high-value targets.

“It’s better to kidnap one person like Bergdahl than kidnapping hundreds of useless people,” the commander said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media. “It has encouraged our people. Now everybody will work hard to capture such an important bird.”

I’m assuming for the sake of argument that Bergdahl actually was a hostage, despite no small amount of evidence to the contrary.

And to those who are now shouting “But Reagan!” let me tell you that I wholeheartedly agree that Reagan did indeed do something this stupid — and that Obama deserves just as much Congressional and media scrutiny as Reagan and his White House got for Iran-Contra.

Every single bit as much.
