Democrats just can’t catch a break today. Here’s the latest non-candidate to not-file to run for a seat currently held by a Democrat:
Former North Dakota Attorney General Heidi Heitkamp (D) announced Wednesday that she will not run for Senate against Gov. John Hoeven (R).
Heitkamp was considered the strongest possible Democratic contender to defend the seat being vacated by Sen. Byron L. Dorgan (D-N.D.), who surprised the political world when he announced in January he would not seek re-election.
Following Dorgan’s surprise decision not to seek reelection, most everybody had called this a Republican pickup in the fall. But the Democrats have gone from “Permanent Majority” to “Won’t Even Contest” in less than a year.
The only thing faster than that is a HEMI engine, dropped out of a helicopter.
