Cathy

Like so many others, I never got to meet Cathy Seipp in person, but we’d swapped emails a few times over the last few years, particularly after I wrote about her delightful take-down of a pompous New York Times staffer, and later when Cathy’s daughter Maia elected to skip her senior year of high school to start college, something I should have done myself.

I’m happy to report but sad to recall that Cathy was every bit as engaging in private correspondence as she was in her writing for publication. Losing her incisive mind and marvelous writing is more than bad enough; losing her luminous personality and open-hearted friendship to any and all is the real tragedy.
