The latest silliness from Foggy Bottom:

Secretary of State Colin Powell will meet here Thursday with Israeli Vice Premier Ehud Olmert to discuss an evolving Israeli plan to dismantle virtually all Jewish settlements in Gaza.

Olmert’s surprise visit was confirmed without elaboration by State Department spokesman Richard Boucher, who also gave tacit approval to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s plan.

At the same time, Boucher cautioned Israel against trying to end its long conflict with the Palestinians unilaterally, without negotiations.

Yes, heaven forbid a people get some peace without help from diplomats.
