After getting units of his Third Army across the Rhine and into the German heartland in 1945, General George Patton stopped in the middle of a pontoon bridge, and reached for his fly. . .
. . .and, yeah, he pissed in the river.
If I recall correctly, he said something like, “I’ve waited a long time to do this.”
Today, elements of Third Army are crossing the Euphrates River and preparing to move into Saddam’s final stronghold. It’s not a pretty picture, but I have to wonder how many American troops are relieving themselves somewhere on the bridge.
