Is this a possible Demo logical train of thought?

1) Al Gore is really president having won in 2000

2) The party with the presidency always loses in the first midterm historically

3) The Demos lost seats in house / senate

4) Therefore NOTHING IS WRONG.

I wonder if some columnist will try and float this?
