Jim Dunnigan says that our Afghan Campaign tactics won’t work in Iraq.

He’s right, of course. Iraqis don’t have a local warlord tradition; they have a tradition of being cowed and/or slaughtered by whoever runs Baghdad. This fight will be mostly BYOA: Bring Your Own Allies. (AKA, “Welcome Along, Britain!”)

A clever Iraqi general or two might switch sides — but not before the war is all but over.
