On Sunday afternoon, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), a 2020 presidential candidate, tweeted a video of him changing his baby daughter’s diaper, as if it were proof he would make a good president. The tweet aimed to convince people to donate to Swalwell’s campaign so he could qualify for the Democratic debates, but it unleashed a slew of Twitter mockery instead.
“Will you donate $1 now to get me to the debate stage? I’m ready to clean s#*% up! Give $1 now,” Swalwell tweeted with the cringeworthy video.
The video shared Swalwell changing his daughter’s diaper, with the words, “If Eric can clean S#*% at home… he can clean it up in Washington. Donate $1 today.”

“Ive also changed diapers… And I didn’t threaten to nuke people who disagree with me. Clearly that qualifies me to be President, according to [Eric Swalwell] logic,” Andrew Follett, an analyst at Club for Growth, chimed in. Indeed, Swalwell has threatened to nuke gun owners who refuse to surrender their firearms. Yes, he is campaigning for the presidency, which would give him access to the nuclear codes.

And I didn't threaten to nuke people who disagree with me.
Clearly that qualifies me to be President, according to @ericswalwell logic.

“Retweet if you changed your son’s dirty diaper and didn’t think that qualified you to be President of the United States,” the Reagan Battalion tweeted.

Swalwell responded to this, correcting the conservative Twitter account.
“That’s my daughter. No one’s figured out how to change our son’s diapers. *Her side-eye is for people who USED to care about Russian aggression but now blindly follow a corrupt President. She heard in the 80s there was a Republican president who knew which country to side with,” the desperate candidate tweeted.

Some couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

On a more serious note, this public snafu illustrates just how desperate some 2020 Democrats are to make it onto the debate stage. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) is also paying for Facebook ads to get people to donate so she can debate. Ironically, two celebrity candidates with no political experience — Andrew Yang and Marianne Williamson — have already qualified.
If you are at all tempted, please refrain from donating to Swalwell’s campaign. The internet is waiting to see what sort of desperate stunt he’ll pull next.
