All is right with the world.

When 19-year-old Ginny Thrasher first picked up a rifle five years ago, she just wanted to go deer hunting with her grandfather. But on Saturday, Thrasher shot her way to the first American gold medal in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic games.

She won her gold in the women’s 10 meter air-rifle finals, one of the most precise sports in the Olympic games, upsetting the top-ranked Andrea Arsovic (Serbia) and defending champion Siling Yi (China). In the final, she knocked out 2-time gold medalist (2004, 2008) Li Du (China).

“U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!” Right?

Maybe in a simpler time, when hysterical liberals didn’t need adult diapers every time a gun was mentioned.

Perennially whiny beta male Wil Wheaton chimed in with this:

Wheaton congratulated Thrasher with his next tweet, but the sincerity was already drained out of it by the initial response.

In the aforementioned simpler time, a 19-year-old who worked that hard and accomplished something like this on an international stage would be praised throughout America without question. Not so now in the Land of Misbegotten Ideology. Progressives make no room for nuance or facts in their “debates.” They’re also miserable people, and desperately need everyone else to join the wallowing.

American shooter Ginny Thrasher won the first gold medal of the Rio Olympics, then spoke of her sadness at how America’s gun control controversy has affected her sport.

Thrasher, 19, set an Olympic record of 208.0 in the 10-meter air rifle event, clinching victory in a significant upset. China’s Du Li and Yu Siling won silver and bronze respectively.

“Some of the (controversy surrounding) gun laws in America is just distracting from our sport, which is very different,” Thrasher said.

The sport of shooting has become caught up in discussions over gun rights and the associated political debate. Thrasher’s teammate, six-time Olympian Kim Rhode, spoke earlier this week about how new gun measures in her state of California had affected her training because she must complete extensive background checks to buy ammunition for practice. Rhode is an outspoken member of the National Rifle Association and previously spoke on the matter at the 2012 Republican National Convention.

Congratulations are in order for Thrasher, and nothing else. This, however, is a story of hard work, earned glory, guns, and America.

All things that progressives loathe.
