Kamala Harris is everything the Democrats could want in a candidate. In addition to being a minority, Harris is a female, which is like a double whammy from the party of identity politics. It helps that unlike, say, Stacey Dash, Harris has the right progressive politics.
To be fair, Harris is doing everything she can to loudly signal her progressivism. Her latest effort? Co-sponsoring Bernie Sanders’ doomed single-payer healthcare bill.
California’s junior senator, Kamala Harris, on Wednesday departed from the position held by the state’s senior senator, Dianne Feinstein, and announced her intention to co-sponsor Senator Bernie Sanders’ “Medicare for All’’ bill.

But that stated position puts her at odds with Feinstein, who has publicly expressed concerns about the costs and details of single payer, and who this week at the Commonwealth Club of California said she favored a public option for health care instead.
I’m going to say something I never thought I’d say: Listen to Dianne Feinstein.
Alright, now that I said that, let me go take a shower because I feel really, really dirty.
Seriously, single-payer healthcare is a non-starter. Everyone with half a brain knows it won’t go anywhere. Not only does the sitting president oppose it, but Republicans control both chambers of Congress. While they’re not getting much done these days, it’s important to understand that something else they won’t do is pass a bill that will anger their base.
Passing single-payer healthcare is never going to happen, not even if Democrats promised to put a machine gun in every home, the pledge of allegiance in every school, and a copy of the Ten Commandments in every courthouse. Even sweetening the pot with no baker ever having to bake anything they don’t want to again will change the GOP’s mind on single-payer healthcare.
The thing is, Democrats may be dumb, but they’re not that dumb. They know it won’t go anywhere. It’s just like when the Republicans kept passing Obamacare repeal after Obamacare repeal. They knew it wasn’t going to be law. They were just grandstanding.
And that’s all this is. Harris and Sanders and all the others can bore us with all the platitudes they want about how this is the right thing or whatever, but they have to know this is nothing more than high-level virtue signaling.
While we may eventually have single-payer healthcare crammed down our throats, it definitely won’t be in the next three years. Harris knows this. Sanders knows this too.
Do the people who vote Democrat know this? Do they even care?
