U.S. Olympic gold medalist Breezy Johnson is a lot of things. She has one of my favorite all-time names for a skier. She’s one of the best women’s downhill skiers in the world. She’s apparently bisexual, and now she’s engaged to a man. So, lets’ start at the top. This is Breezy doing the thing that made her famous.

You can’t watch that without appreciating her talent and tenacity. This is Breezy showing everyone how to fully appreciate and respect the country that sponsors you at the Olympics.

Her given name in full is Breezy Noble “Breezy” Johnson. That’s right. “Breezy” is not a nickname, which provides convincing evidence that perhaps what we name our children can have a major impact on the life they live.
She was born in Jackson, Wyo., on Jan. 19, 1996, and was raised in a ski community. She started skiing at three years old.
That makes her a 30-year-old Generation Z “Zoomer.” In keeping with her demographic, she may like privacy, but she’s not a fanatic about it.
She missed the 2022 Winter Olympics due to some serious knee injuries. Also, in 2022, she "came out" as bisexual.
Olympic skier Breezy Johnson became the first out athlete to take home the gold for Team USA during the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games when she won the downhill race on Sunday.

I’m not sure why we need to know that, but I don’t think that’s the point. As we’re seeing in these Olympics, Generation Z is all about "using their platforms" for anything other than why they’re there in the first place. It’s about attention. Attention is currency. To truly succeed in these Olympic games, getting a medal is just an entry point. It’s what you do with your moment in the sun that counts. What can you do to optimize the brief but intense amount of attention you might get? What kind of influencer clout does that get you?
Breezy got some extra help in the form of Connor Watkins at the finish line. Five days after the she won the USA’s first gold medal in these games, she crashed in the Super-G. While she didn’t medal, she did come away with a diamond ring as her boyfriend, now fiancé, Watkins proposed to her right there on the mountain.
But Watkins wasn’t alone. He had all of the event’s spectators, a horde of media, and a quote from Taylor Swift on hand to seal the deal. I shouldn't have mentioned that. Now, I have to tell you what the quote says. I caution you that this is the first and likely the last time I will ever quote Taylor Swift, who apparently once said or wrote or sang, “Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy?” Puke.

Huge congrats to Breezy and Connor on their engagement 🫶 pic.twitter.com/lQASJPAMnb
He actually had that engraved on a piece of wood, along with a ring that he gave Breezy to make their engagement official. Connor, I’d like a word with you. I don’t know what’s worse: proposing to a woman who just told CBS News that she’s bisexual; or the fact that you’re a Taylor Swift fan and we have to know it.
So, what we have now is a gold-medal-winning, girl-loving, guy-loving bisexual who feels compelled to share all of this just as she gets engaged to a guy. My head’s spinning.
The only thing I’m grateful for with Breezy is that at least she didn’t denigrate the country that sent her to the Olympic games. That said, I don't want to jinx myself. I realize that there’s still plenty of time for her to go all Michelle Obama on the U.S. We don't need any more of that.
