In 1898, the US captured Guam from Spain.

In 1915, the Supreme Court handed down its decision in Guinn vs United States, striking down Oklahoma’s discriminatory”grandfather clause” law.

In 1942, a Japanese submarine surfaced near the Columbia River in Oregon and fired 17 shells at nearby Fort Stevens.

In 1948, Columbia Records introduced the LP, which was the 8-track  cassette  CD of its time.

In 1964, the Klan murdered three young civil rights workers in Mississippi; Andrew Goodman, James Chaney and Mickey Schwermer.

In 2004, SpaceShipOne became the first privately financed space plane to achieve space flight.
