Students Asked About Prostitution and Drugs... on Math Test

A mom in southwest Florida was surprised to discover references to pimps, prostitutes, and drug dealers in her 8th grade daughter’s math homework. The local Fox affiliate
reports:

The questions combine algebraic functions with questions about the early years of poet Maya Angelou, including references to sexual abuse and prostitution…

…The mom, who did not want to go on camera, tells FOX 4 a subsitute filling in for a teacher on maternity leave gave the homework assignment to students.

“I read it and just thought, ‘what in the world?’ this is so inappropriate for a 13 year-old 8th grader.”

The district blamed the incident on a substitute teacher utilizing external resources.
