CNN's 'Chicagoland' Was an 8-Part Commercial for Rahm Emanuel

The Chicago Tribune has a bombshell. Well, not really, but it’s still shocking. The paper gained access to about 700 emails detailing CNN’s cozy relationship with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel during the network’s production of “Chicagoland.”

Producers and the mayor’s political cadre coordinated every detail.

More than 700 emails reviewed by the Tribune reveal that the production team worked hand in hand with the mayor’s advisers to develop storylines, arrange specific camera shots and review news releases officially announcing the show.

Producers asked the mayor’s office to help them set up key interactions in what the cable network has billed as a nonscripted eight-part series, including Emanuel’s visits with the school principal who emerged as a star of the show, emails show.

The production team for the series, whose final episode aired Thursday night, told Emanuel’s staff that particular scenes would present the mayor in a positive light, with one of the producers expressing a desire to showcase the mayor “as the star that he really is.”

Democrats constantly rail against the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision because it allows corporations unlimited political donations, yet here is corporation CNN giving 8 full hours of its airtime to a single Democrat officeholder, coordinating the entire production so that it makes him look good while his city remains a violent mess. Chicagoland is basically an advertisement for Rahm Emanuel. How is this not an in-kind donation to his campaign? Do any Democrats have a problem with what CNN has done, other than to be jealous that it has not created an 8-hour commecial for them too?

And, let’s add CNN’s dive into propaganda to the recent report that Chicago has been faking its crime statistics to make Emanuel’s administration look good.

CNN has not reported on the allegations that Chicago PD is falsifying its crime statistics. Not once.

This is far more than a mere black eye for CNN. What we have here is a corrupt city government being propped up by a corrupt cable network.
