Texas' National Treasure, Sheila Jackson Lee, Thinks the U.S. Constitution is 400 Years Old

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) thinks that the United States was founded in 1614, or something.

“Maybe I should offer a good thanks to the distinguished members of the majority, the Republicans, my chairman and others, for giving us an opportunity to have a deliberative constitutional discussion that reinforces the sanctity of this nation and how well it is that we have lasted some 400 years, operating under a constitution that clearly defines what is constitutional and what is not,” she said.

The Constitution was adopted in September of 1787, making it 226 years old.

The Yale and Virginia Law grad may not be aware that the Constitution is ambiguous and even silent on a number of issues. We generally sort those issues out via legislation or, increasingly, the courts.
