Aetna Fleeing Obamacare Exchanges As If They're On Fire

The company announced this week that it will not join the state-based exchange in New Jersey, as it reviews its participation in the Affordable Care Act. It will continue to serve employers and offer plans to individuals outside of the exchange in the Garden State, where it has 1.1 million customers.

Only 2,600 of those customers, however, buy individual plans through Aetna.

The point isn’t how many currently purchase individual plans from a provider but how many will under the exchanges. This is the sixth one that Aetna has pulled out of, reducing choice for the people in those states.

Also, the president didn’t say, “If you like your current health plan, you can keep it. Except you guys, that is.”
