Obama: Newtown Shooter Used 'Fully Automatic Weapon'

Allahpundit leads his post on this with a quiz. The obvious answer is D. President Barack Obama doesn’t know the barrel of a firearm from a hole in the ground.

Here’s what the president told a hard left big money Democrat fundraiser in San Francisco last night.

Now, over the next couple of months, we’ve got a couple of issues: gun control. (Applause.) I just came from Denver, where the issue of gun violence is something that has haunted families for way too long, and it is possible for us to create common-sense gun safety measures that respect the traditions of gun ownership in this country and hunters and sportsmen, but also make sure that we don’t have another 20 children in a classroom gunned down by a semiautomatic weapon — by a fully automatic weapon in that case, sadly.

The Newtown killer did not have a “fully automatic weapon.” He had several semiautomatic weapons, a Bushmaster .223, a Sig Sauer handgun, a Glock handgun, and a 12 gauge shotgun. No automatics.

Claiming that the killer used a full auto doesn’t even serve Obama’s political gun control purposes, since full autos have been for an intents and purposes banned since the 1930s.

Obama is at best being sloppy with the facts, but it’s more likely that he simply doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He doesn’t know the difference between a semiauto and a full auto. It’s so nice having a commander in chief of the military who doesn’t know the most basic facts about the firearms that the military trains on and uses in the wars he won’t let them win.

It’s getting more and more difficult to find a Democrat anywhere who can discuss guns with anything like basic intelligence. They’re getting so far off base that it prompted a good quip from Ann Coulter on Twitter today.

Our president also said this, about half the country, last night.

I want to find some common-sense gun safety legislation that we can get done. And I do believe that there are well-meaning Republicans out there who care about their kids just as passionately as we do.

Because you disagree with him and have some problems with the laws he wants passed, you don’t care about your kids as passionately as some rich leftist who’s donating to his Democrat Party and cluelessly listening to him say things about the tragedy he is exploiting that aren’t even true.

What a sick, dishonest and ill-informed little man Barack Obama is.
