Parties on the Hill regularly accuse each other of proposing bills not grounded in current realities. Today, the House Democratic Caucus accused Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) of living on another planet with his latest incarnation of the Path to Prosperity budget plan.
The Dems also compared the budget to baby poop.
“Let me just say the Republican budget is the same baby with a new diaper and eventually this diaper will have to be changed once again,” Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.) told reporters before a caucus meeting.
“Everyone knows that the Ryan budget is almost a sleight of hand. We know that what’s on paper is horrible but the words that come out of their mouths would make you believe that they want to do something to help the American people,” said Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio). “…We all know if you listen to any economist, austerity is not the way to go at this time.”
The CBC has presented its own budget, but Fudge said they’ll support the Dem caucus budget as well.
Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, had a message for the Budget Committee leader: “Earth to Chairman Ryan, come in Chairman Ryan, come back to Earth because people want to get to work, people want to make sure that the earned benefits that they paid for are there for them when they finally need them. And I think what we have is a budget on the Democratic side that reflects the reality of people on Earth, that simply says the most important thing is to talk about the middle.”
“…And if we do that, we think not only are we from the planet Earth, but we think that we’ll be able to get the Republicans to come back from space and actually deal with the reality of what we have here on planet Earth,” Becerra said.
“At least our budgets are honest, they are open,” Fudge added.
“Let me just ask you, the reporter, a reverse question. Did Mr. Ryan indicate which planet they’re on?” Crowley said.
