Hagel Said Israel was Headed Toward Apartheid, and Other Things that Won't Stop His Nomination

In a 2010 speech, Chuck Hagel said more things that align with President Obama’s actual views and will not block his ascension to become the next head of our military.

Secretary of defense nominee Chuck Hagel said Israel is on its way to becoming an apartheid state during an April 9, 2010, appearance at Rutgers University, according to a contemporaneous account by an attendee.

Hagel also accused Israel of violating U.N. resolutions, called for U.S.-designated terrorist organization Hamas to be included in any peace negotiations, and described Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “radical,” according to the source.

What better man to preside over the decline of the American military than one whose judgement is so spectacularly bad? I meant Hagel, but you may have thought Obama. Whatever.

Unless the Republicans in the Senate mount a filibuster and/or get some Democrats to go against their god-king Barack I, Hagel’s nomination is a done deal. He isn’t fit for the job, of course, but neither is Obama. Neither is John Kerry for that matter, a man who built his career on smearing the US military. A majority of the American people are evidently fine with all that.

When Hagel and Obama gut the military and then pull away from our alliance with Israel, the same majority will probably be fine with that too.
