Civitas Poll: Romney Takes NC Lead After SCOTUS Ruling; NC Dem Vows Repeal

So of course a health care cease-fire is on order…for the Democrats.

The newest Civitas Flash Poll suggests that Mitt Romney has gained crucial North Carolina support in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling on Obamacare.

In a poll taken June 29-July 1, 50 percent of voting age North Carolinians supported the former Massachusetts governor. President Obama was backed by 45 percent. In the March Civitas Poll, Romney led Obama 47 percent to 45 percent.

Among the 89% who said they currently have health insurance Romney led 54 percent to 42 percent while among those who said they did not have health insurance Obama led 67 percent to 32 percent.

There’s a whiff of makers vs. takers in that last part.

North Carolina Democrat Larry Kissell represents the state’s 8th Congressional district, one of the more closely-watched swing districts. He was one of 17 Democrats who voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in criminal contempt of Congress. And now, according to the Charlotte Observer, Kissell will join Republicans in voting to repeal Obamacare.

“I’ve heard from hundreds and hundreds of people from my district about their opposition to the health care law,” Kissell told the newpaper. “I voted against it originally and I will vote to repeal it.”

So repeal will be more bipartisan than the “strong (by Obama’s definition) majority” that passed it.
