Barney Frank: Obama's Presence Would Ruin My Wedding Day

Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) said on C-SPAN yesterday that President Obama’s presence at his gay wedding would be a party pooper.

“If he and Michelle wanted to come, I would be delighted and honored to have them. But he will bring the Secret Service,” Frank said on C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers.”

“I would be flattered to have the president do that, but it would ruin the party to have the Secret Service.”

The retiring congressman, 71, plans to wed his longtime partner, Jim Ready, 42, in his home state, where same-sex marriage was legalized in 2004.

“I don’t want to be accused of having shut down the entire region for a five mile radius on a holiday weekend,” Frank said. “I don’t want my guests going through a magnetometer.”

“I’m not critical of [the Secret Service], but they can go take their layered protection of the president somewhere else,” he added. “Not to my party.”
