AP reporting on Rick Perry’s bowing out of the race and his subsequent endorsement of Newt Gingrich — despite the former Speaker’s ex wife saying he lacks the “moral character” to be president:
Texas Gov. Rick Perry has thrown his support behind Newt Gingrich despite the former House speaker’s ex-wife telling ABC News that Gingrich wanted an “open marriage.”
“Newt is not perfect, but who among us is?” Perry said while announcing he is abandoning his race to the White House. Perry added that Gingrich has the “ability to rally” the conservative movement.
Perry dropped out of the race just two days before the pivotal South Carolina primary as Republican front-runner Mitt Romney struggles to fend off a challenge from Gingrich.
We’ll see how Newt’s “ability to rally” the conservative movement plays out over the next few days as the GOP electorate gets a gander at just how “not perfect” he is.
