Crony Cover-Up: Obama Administration and General Motors Suppressed Information on Chevy Volt Fires

Less Government has long chronicled the Crony Socialist double-dealing that has resulted from the federal government’s ownership role in General Motors (GM).

Now comes word that GM and President Barack Obama’s National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA) first knew of Chevy Volts bursting into flames way back in June – and sat on the information until November.

The Chevy Volt has been on the market for one year.  The Obama Administration and General Motors have spent half that time suppressing vitally important safety information.

Less Government President Seton Motley:

“To protect their cherished – and as yet utterly unrealistic – vision of a Chevy Volt electric car America, the Obama Administration and General Motors suppressed the fact that their precious ‘vehicle of the future’ doesn’t have much of one before it leaps into flames.

“General Motors and the Obama Administration both knew for half a year of multiple incidences of Chevy Volts causing fires – and neither said anything.  Knowingly exposing Americans to this sort of risk – in order to move blindly forward with their green non-energy ‘energy’ agenda – proves yet again that government ownership of GM was and is a terrible idea.

“The only saving grace is that not many Americans face immolation-exposure, as so few have purchased the expensive, unprofitable – and flammable – Chevy Volt.

“The GM-Obama Administration nexus has profoundly warped and damaged the free market and the Constitutional balance between the private and public sectors.  And it has ‘fundamentally transformed’ GM – from a for-profit car company into a Leftist ideological entity.  That it is willing to suppress vital safety information – to protect their precious Progressive agenda at the expense of the well-being of their customers, i.e. the American people.

“And the Obama Administration was willfully complicit in the cover-up.”

We the taxpayers own more than 500,000 shares of GM stock, on which we are poised to lose more than $15 billion.  Less Government tracks the looming loss – and offers the solution for how we can extricate ourselves from GM – at www.BailoutCost.com.
