Every day now, I run across something like this that I truly hope isn’t real: “Everyone makes school’s cheer squad after parent complains”
Sadly, in these impossible-to-parody times, it never is.
The New York Post reports that the athletic director at Hanover Park High School decided to do away with tryouts and cuts after just one mother complained about her daughter not making the team.
During a school board meeting to discuss the issue, cheerleader Stephanie Krueger said, “I tried my hardest. Now everything is going away because of one child who did not make the team, and their parent complained.”
“All my hard work has been thrown out the window,” Krueger continued through tears.
After yielding to a single parent, the school became defensive when the cheerleaders who have worked hard to make the team voiced their concerns. The school then threatened to abandon the program altogether.
The school is supportive of the nonsense, saying it wants to make cheerleading “inclusive,” whatever that means.
The lesson here — as it always is with participation trophy lunacy — is that people can be rewarded for doing nothing more than showing up. It’s a horrible way to raise children, and will one day probably be found to be the real reason behind a host of American societal ills.
The school board’s official statement featured a lot of modern feel-good mumbo jumbo, but did manage to get the all-important “inclusive” into it twice.
The board’s president did say that there will be a further ruling on the issue at a later date.
