The baseball purists will be losing it over this one, but that’s what they do. I’m only a purist when it comes to the designated hitter, a loathsome rule designed simply to give fat guys another five years of playing time and American League managers the opportunity to nap during the part of the game where National League managers have to earn a living.
Baseball is already a slow game and there is some justified trepidation about replay making it even slower. That’s mostly based on the fact that the NFL replay officials take an average of seventeen hours to see what everyone else with the same video feed can see in fourteen seconds. The NFL, however, is working with a couple of guys and and a couple of small monitors. MLB has gone all NASA for its replay purposes.
