Now That Elon Musk ‘Regrets’ His X Posts About Trump, Can We Get the Band Back Together Again?

If you’re a conservative, it’s the moment you’ve been waiting for: an acknowledgement of contrition from Elon Musk. After all, without Musk bending his knee, reconciliation was an impossibility.

To catch you up to speed, this morning at around 3:00 a.m., Elon Musk posted the following:  "I regret some of my posts about President Trump last week. They went too far."

Blasting Trump’s signature legislation as a “disgusting abomination,” calling for his impeachment, and flippantly accusing the president of being a pedo-rapist from Epstein Island was outrageously over-the-top!

In just one afternoon, he torched his relationship with the White House.

Elon Musk has admitted to being neurodivergent. His mind is extraordinarily gifted, but he struggles with social norms:

Growing up, “the social cues were not intuitive,” Musk said when asked about it on stage at the TED2022 conference in Vancouver, Canada.

  • “I would just tend to take things very literally … but then that turned out to be wrong — [people were not] simply saying exactly what they mean, there's all sorts of other things that are meant, and [it] took me a while to figure that out,” he recalled.

It probably helps explain Musk’s X meltdown.

For his part, President Trump hasn’t directly addressed Musk’s newest apology, but he has also sounded increasingly conciliatory in recent interviews:

[I]n a previously recorded podcast interview with the New York Post that aired on Wednesday morning, Trump said he had "no hard feelings" towards Musk.

"I don't blame him for anything but I was a little disappointed," Trump said, adding that he had not "thought too much about him in the last little while."

When asked if he could forgive Musk, Trump said "I guess I could," but that "my sole function now is getting this country back to a level higher than it's ever been."

And that’s the smartest move for MAGA: There’s no need to demand a head on a pike. Yes, Musk effed-up royally, but that doesn’t negate his accomplishments, resources, or commitment to free speech. He’s still one of the most brilliant entrepreneurs in world history; between his checkbook, X platform, and well-earned reputation as a man of accomplishment, he’s still a helluva political asset.

Just… not as much as before.

Sadly, since Election Day 2024, Musk’s neurodivergent approach to reputation management has diminished his reach and impact. It’s not all his fault, of course; the liberal media raked him over the coals with bogus charges of being a Nazi and/or a drug-addled junkie. And who could forget the ridiculous lies they told about DODGE murdering babies?

But that’s what happens when you go to war against the liberal establishment! They were ALWAYS going to attack this way! You’ve gotta know that going in. Politics is like prizefighting: When you choose to enter the ring, it’s your responsibility to protect yourself at all times.

Don’t expect the referee to save you — especially if you’re aligned with Trump!

Musk’s mind is hardwired for innovation and pattern recognition. He’s the kind of person who can identify opportunities that others overlook. I don’t care what his IQ is; IQ tests are overrated. (Trust me: I’m in Mensa and I’m a moron.) What I care about is what Musk does with his intellect, and he’s accomplished more than any human since Thomas Edison.

Maybe since Da Vinci.

If you’re the GOP, a relationship with Elon Musk is still worth salvaging. And so far, Trump has played this perfectly: There had to be consequences to his X meltdown, but there’s no need to close the book entirely.

Musk is still a genius. Still a very clever guy. Still possesses the kind of intellect that exists in great scarcity.

Let him figure a path back on his own.

Let's paraphrase the Blues Brothers:

If Steve frickin’ Bannon was smart enough to do it, then so will Musk. (And if it takes him a few months, so much the better. The Democrats had identified Musk as the GOP’s weak link since Wisconsin, so keeping him off the political radar for a little while is another win-win for Republicans.)

So yes, one day, the band WILL reunite. I promise you, Elon Musk and Donald Trump WILL share the stage again.

The sun hasn’t set on their bromance!

But it won’t be the same. Musk’s instability precludes it.

And maybe that’s for the best, too.
