It was almost certainly a first in American history, or at very least, one of a handful of incidents in which a congressional candidate’s supporters celebrated his victory with screams of “Allahu akbar.” Thousands of people have been elected to Congress since 1789, and not once was there the slightest chance that the jihadi war cry would ever be shouted over any of these elections until Keith Ellison, Andre Carson, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib triumphed over their rivals. And now that Adam Hamawy has won the Democrat primary for a congressional seat from New Jersey’s 12th District and will almost certainly be headed to Washington in January, the cry is going to get more and more common.
Leftists will find that fact a welcome manifestation of their beloved diversity, but it really isn’t anything that any non-Muslim should celebrate. “Allahu akbar” is not simply a shout of joy or of praise to God. “Allahu akbar” means “Allah is greater,” i.e., greater than your god. To scream it is a particular declaration of the supremacy, superiority, and victory of Islam.
The scream of “Allahu akbar” is also designed to “strike terror in the enemies of Allah” (Qur’an 8:60). 9/11 hijacker Mohamed Atta reminded himself to “shout, ‘Allahu Akbar,’ because this strikes fear in the hearts of the non-believers.” For that reason, jihadis routinely scream it while they are in the process of doing violence to non-Muslims.
The victorious candidate himself, however, would impatiently brush aside any claim that anyone should be concerned about the screams of “Allahu akbar” at his victory celebration. The New York Post reported Tuesday that “a spokesperson for his campaign described attacks on Hamawy’s work with the foundation as ‘desperate,’ ‘absurd’ and ‘bigoted.’” That work included an internship with Benevolence International, which al-Qaeda “used by the terror group as a front ‘to establish a base for operations in Europe against Al Qaeda’s true enemy, the United States.’”
If Hamawy is that touchy about his work with an al Qaeda-linked group, it’s clear that he would have no patience whatsoever for anyone who looked askance at the screams of “Allahu akbar” following his primary victory.
The Post also notes that Hamawy “was called as a defense witness to dispute a government informant’s accusations that Abdel-Rahman urged his followers to murder then-Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. At trial, the future Democratic congressional hopeful also testified that comments Abdel-Rahman made about ‘conquering the land of the infidels’ were being taken ‘out of context’ by prosecutors, according to a transcript of proceedings.”
Of course. The Blind Sheikh tried to take down the Twin Towers in 1993, but he didn’t want to conquer the land of the infidels. In fact, no Muslims want to do that. On May 27, 2026, former Muslim American Society (MAS) President Esam Omeish said: “We must do to America what we think is our responsibility, and the best thing we can do to America is help guide it with the guidance of Islam.” But he doesn’t want to conquer the land of the infidels.

In late March, a prominent Muslim speaker and teacher in Britain, Ustadh Muhammad Tim Humble, stated that Islam “has been sent to dominate, to wipe out, to take out every other religion.” But he doesn’t want to conquer the land of the infidels.
And on May 27, former Muslim American Society President Esam Omeish, preaching at the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Virginia, said: “America has a lot of good things, no doubt. America has given us a home, given us a chance to thrive as a community and to grow. But we must do to America what we think is our responsibility, and the best thing we can do to America is help guide it with the guidance of Islam, and help guide it with the ability to rid itself of these illnesses that our Prophet Muhammad has described and has given us the prescription for." But he, too, has no intention of conquering the land of the infidels.
Adam Hamawy used the hoary old “out of context” defense in vouching for the Blind Sheikh, and would likewise dismiss these declarations of supremacism. Only “Islamophobes” would think anything amiss here. Adam Hamawy, in Congress, will surely work for the best interests of all Americans and of the United States as a whole, right? The idea that he could have any other allegiance or agenda is positively inconceivable. Isn’t it?
