There is one group of people that leftists hate almost as much as they hate patriots, and that’s other leftists. They always circle the wagons and defend one of their own from an attack from outsiders, but that never means that they are ever in a mood to set aside their petty disagreements and get along with people with whom they disagree. Leftists are fanatical ideologues whose politics serve them as an ersatz religion, and they persecute heretics with a zeal that would make a Medieval Inquisitor blush. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul just found that out.
The New York Post reported Friday that Hochul “gave up on fielding questions from reporters when a handful of lefty activists interrupted her press conference with ‘Tax the Rich’ chants.” This example of leftists eating their own took place while the New York governor “was taking questions after announcing a coordinated effort to combat auto insurance fraud in Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon, when someone from the crowd started shouting about taxes and her alleged siding with President Donald Trump.”
This has happened before. The “Tax the Rich” commies seem to have decided to dog Hochul. The Post reported back in Oct. 2025 that Hochul “was berated by hecklers screaming ‘tax the rich!’ as she took the stage at Zohran Mamdani’s packed mayoral rally in Queens Sunday night, forcing the headlining candidate to come out early to quell the unrelenting crowd.”
Hochul faced that hostile reception at Mamdani rally because she had declined to join him in his plans to tax the rich, saying: “I’m not raising taxes at a time where affordability is the big issue. I don’t want to lose any more people to Palm Beach. We’ve lost enough.”
Yet she endorsed the young Communist future mayor anyway, thereby indicating her loyalty to the larger cause, and the real depth of her opposition to his confiscatory policies. So why do the Commies keep targeting her? Because it’s what leftists do. Remember the furious hostility between the Bolsheviks and the Mensheviks in the run-up to the October Revolution in Russia in 1917, despite the fact that only Bolshevik leader V. I. Lenin, who had been largely responsible for the split in the first place, and a few other people had any clear idea of what the two factions actually disagreed about.
Then among American Communists in the 1930s we had the persecution and expulsion from the Communist Party of the “Lovestoneites,” that is, the followers of Jay Lovestone, the former General Secretary of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The Lovestoneites fought furiously against both Trotskyites and Stalinists, but were ultimately consigned to the dustbin of history, as those other factions would soon be as well.
One had to get the left’s verbal formulations exactly right or risk expulsion from the party and everlasting vilification, in a demonic parody of suspected heretics reciting the Christian Creed in order to demonstrate their orthodoxy and stave off excommunication and eternal damnation. Yet the left’s precise formulations were ever-shifting and increasingly obscure.
As the years go by, the areas of disagreement between Hochul and the hecklers will look similarly arcane and trivial. Hochul is just as committed as those who disrupt her public appearances to all items on the far left’s wish list; she just may be more willing than her detractors are to work patiently within the existing system rather to tear it all down and rebuild it from scratch.

And ultimately, the furious disagreements leftists have with one another matter little to the sane and patriotic. The left still has the destruction of the existing order and the establishment of a socialist authoritarian state as the number-one goal on its wish list. If leftists end up at each other’s throats in order to determine exactly how the new order is implemented and who will get to be in charge, well, that’s how pirates always operate.
The “tax the rich” people target Hochul because she is so very close to them in ideology, and her minute deviation infuriates them. They don’t show up at the workplaces of billionaire capitalists in New York City, because they have no hope that such people will come around. Their job is simply to allow themselves to be plundered for the sake of socialism. If Hochul, as heretical as she is in the eyes of the hard left, gets the chance, she’ll eventually do the plundering herself.
