In the wake of the jihad massacre at Australia’s Bondi Beach, in which fifteen people were killed and 40 injured at a Hanukkah celebration, New South Wales Police Force Commissioner Mal Lanyon assured the public that his people were on the job: “We continue to work through the motive of this tragedy and will continue to do so.” The motive is, in fact, blazingly obvious. It’s so obvious, in fact, that even as Lanyon tried to give the impression that he wasn’t exactly sure what it was, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who has never been distinguished for enunciating unpopular truths, let the cat out of the bag. He did so, however, in a way that preserved leftist fantasies about the way the world works, and so for now, his job is safe.
Albanese has acknowledged, more or less readily, that this was an Islamic jihad attack, and that the two attackers, the father-and-son duo of Sajid Akram, 50, and Naveed Akram, 24, appear to have had some connection to the Islamic State (ISIS). ABC News reported Tuesday that “Australian investigators and officials have described the incident as an anti-semitic terrorist attack,” no doubt gritting their teeth all the while.
The prime minister himself revealed that “it would appear that there is evidence that this was inspired by a terrorist organization, by ISIS. Some of the evidence which is being procured, including the presence of Islamic State flags in the vehicle that has been seized, are a part of that.” That would seem to indicate an Islamic State connection, although with Lanyon saying that the Australian authorities are still working on the motive for the attack, nothing can be taken for granted.
Albanese also hastened to add, “Radical perversion of Islam is absolutely a problem. It is something that has been identified globally as a problem as well.” He is a far-leftist, and so this kind of statement was entirely to be expected, but that doesn’t make it any more excusable.
There have been over 48,000 jihad attacks worldwide since 9/11. The unifying factor of all of them is that they were carried out in accord with Islamic theology. Many had the active approval or even participation of Muslim clerics. In light of that, to call jihad violence a “radical perversion of Islam” in 2025 is simply asinine. Ever since 9/11, and before that as well, we have had counterterror “experts” warning about this “perversion” or “hijacking” of Islam, and saying that it was high time for “moderates” to step up and reclaim their religion.
Over the years, numerous willfully ignorant commentators have repeated that call, apparently unaware of the fact that the “moderates” had been asked to step up many times before, and never did. They won’t, either, because they know the jihadis have the Qur’an and Sunnah on their side, and they don’t want to put their lives at risk by coming out against jihad terrorism and thereby appearing to be public heretics.

Now, Albanese complacently labels the Islamic State (ISIS) a “radical perversion of Islam.” He didn't explain how ISIS has perverted Islam, or how it is able to convince Muslims of the correctness of this perverted version. He didn't say anything about calling upon mosques in Australia to begin teaching against this “radical perversion of Islam,” and training their members to avoid it and counter it. He didn't say anything about examining Muslim communities in Australia for signs of this “perversion of Islam,” much less deporting any non-citizens who may be spreading this “perversion” in Australia.
Albanese was simply repeating the dogma he knows that he must hold as a leftist, that Islam is a religion of peace that is entirely benign and to be welcomed into the West. He was signaling that mass Muslim migration into Australia will continue, and that nothing will be done to combat the motivating ideology that led this father and son team to engage in a mass murder of Jews. Anthony Albanese is the decline of the West personified.
