Really, all it takes is a glance over at the “men” on the left: Tim Walz, Pete Buttigieg, Barack Obama, Doug Emhoff, Cory Booker, Beto O’Rourke, Rachel Levine, Sam Brinton, and on and on. We’re not talking about the world’s most masculine men here, and leftists appear to be proud of that: after all, they like to rail against “toxic masculinity” and the supposedly deleterious effects it has had on us all. And so it came to a surprise to absolutely no one in the world that a new Pew Research report has confirmed what we can all see with our own eyes: patriotic men are decisively more masculine than leftist men.
“Mr. Right,” the “Daily Caller’s Masculinity Consultant,” wrote Friday that Pew Research surveyed “over 6,000 adults about whether they identify as more feminine or masculine, which male behaviors should be considered socially acceptable, and how men have fared in modern society compared to women.” One of the most noteworthy results of the survey was that Pew “found that fewer Democratic men, 29%, rate themselves as ‘highly masculine’ compared to Republican men, 53%.”
This is only to be expected. Why should Democrat men rate themselves as “highly masculine” when they despise the very idea of masculinity? The soft men of the left have been taught all their lives that traits ordinarily associated with masculinity, including strength, initiative, and courage, were unnecessary, as well as faintly ridiculous and even despicable. They were to be rejected in favor of the traditionally feminine traits of nurturing, empathy, and sensitivity.
In fact, the Pew study notes that “about six-in-ten Americans or more say it’s not too or not at all acceptable for men to join in when other men are talking about women in a sexual way (75%); to have many different sexual partners rather than commit to one relationship (69%); to drink a lot of alcohol when out with friends (63%); or to throw a punch if provoked (62%).” In saner times, healthy, masculine men would have said that such behavior was not masculine, but simply loutish. The Democrat men who sashay away from classifying themselves as “highly masculine,” however, likely associate being “highly masculine” with such behavior.
Another telling finding from the Pew report is that “Men and women under 30 are less likely than their older counterparts to rate themselves as highly masculine or highly feminine, respectively.” This is a testimony to the power of propaganda, and a retreat from a distinction among human beings that is as old as humanity itself. At the beginning of the Bible, God creates human beings “in our image, after our likeness,” and gives them dominion over the animals. Then we read: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27) Without men and without women, that is, without masculinity and femininity, there would be no human beings at all.
American men and women under 30, however, have grown up in a culture that has relentlessly indoctrinated them with the idea that men and women are essentially interchangeable. Not only can they do all things equally well, but they can even switch from being one to being the other.
At its core, twenty-first century American culture is gnostic. That is, the left, which has controlled the culture for decades now, has embraced the idea that one’s essential self is not connected to one’s physical being, but only inhabits it in the way that one would wear a shirt or coat. It’s easy to take one off and put on another, and what one is wearing has nothing to do with one’s essential self.

The competing idea, rooted in the Judeo-Christian view of the world and once dominant in the popular culture as well, is that one’s essential self is inseparable from one’s body in its maleness or femaleness, and being masculine or feminine is a core element of that essential self. This view is confirmed daily in thousands of ways, as men and women are fundamentally different and complementary, but it directly contradicts the left’s mythology, and so leftists are at war against it, as they are at war against so much of reality.
That’s why, in a nutshell, there are more men among patriots then among leftists: patriots still recognize masculinity and value it, and don’t think it’s something to be eradicated. But the left’s half-men and ex-men and pseudo-men are no accident, either: a population that despises masculinity will not be able to muster the strength to defend itself when it finds itself having to do so. Could that have been the idea all along?
